Topic: Crossing Over to Transfer Addictions...VERY BAD TIME OF THE YEAR!
LEARN ABOUT IT BEFORE IT HAPPENS!!!!

http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/crossingtotransferaddictions/

Hi All,

There is a new OH Online Support Group. The above link will get you there.
It's called
Crossing Over to Transfer Addictions.

This group discusses the issue of transfer addictions (also known as cross addictions) after weight loss surgery. there are millions of people who have undergone gastric bypass who are now dealing with issues of addiction transfer.

For a number of people, giving up overeating leads to adoption of a new compulsion.

Addiction transfer occurs when someone is unable or unwilling to rely on one compulsion (for us, it was food) and so switches to a new compulsion (alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, shopping, internet, porn, etc) due to not having dealt with the underlying issue behind the compulsion.

***Please feel free (and safe) to join and discuss any and/all issues you have regarding Transfer Addiction. ***

Topic: Help! First day on Diet
OK so I have officially started my two week high protein diet. So far I have been really good. But I have a concern and I really don't know what to do. At 8:15am this morning I had omelet with bacon, ham and cheese with a side of bacon, and sausage with a bowl of fruit. It was really good! So about 10:15am I thought I would have my protein shake. Well I mixed it with ice tea with Lemon. I barely got 3/4 of it down. It made me so full, to the point that I got nauseaed. Is this normal. I am suppose to sip on it not drink it like a regualar drink? I am going to try again tonight.  Any help would be great!

They want me to get 80 grams of Protein a day in. I was thinking that I should be able to do most of it in regular natural foods that we eat instead of the shake, right now.  Maybe have one shake a day. Since the shakes I am using are 28 grams of protein. What do you guys think?

Topic: RE: Anyone having surgery on the 27th?
My Surgery is the 26th...I am stuck between super excited and nervous.. I just found out my parents, who are driving me to surgery will be out of town from tomorrow until 1/25 and arriving late that night..  I'm second on the schedule the day of surgery and they promise to take me.. but I'm making backup plans in case they are delayed... Traveling now,(current flying issues) in Winter, (home to Milwaukee, WI)... No expectation of possible delay's right??!?!?!  My 20 year old son will be my backup.. very supportive but I think he was planning on hiding that day and waiting for the outcome...

My kids are glad I have a chance to take care of this but they are nervous about the surgery. (19 & 20years old).

But since they are usually away at school, I have freedom to prepare house and pantry for myself. I will stay with my parents after I get bac****il  I am able to drive. I'm already packing my bag to take with me. Lots of great ideas on what to take from other postings. Blistex is number one on my list to get. Plans at work and home to get ready are keeping me busy.. This helps since I would go nuts with too much time on my hands to think about it.

Good luck to all of us!

Topic: RE: Liquid diet and headache
Hi Nichole,

Do you typically drink a lot of caffeine?  You might want to try Excedrin.  Also, you may want to post in the Sleeve board.  I have gotten so much support there.  Just think in less than 2 weeks for you and 2 weeks for me we'll be sleeved OMG!

Topic: Liquid diet and headache
I started my liquid diet yesterday and my surgery is on the 18th.  I woke up with a headache today.  I know it is probably from not eating, but was wondering if anyone else experienced this how long did it last?  I took Tylenol, but it didn't touch it.

Topic: RE: No liquid phase for my surgery -- ??
Thank you all for the info!  It sounds like a very good idea to do this diet for the week before surgery, especially after all the indulgences of the holidays.  I have an appt with the surgeon on 1/8 so I will confirm that he's OK with this plan.  LaRuse, thanks for the diet specifics -- that plan sounds more feasible for me than liquid only for a week.

Good luck everyone!

My RNY surgery is 1/14, and my surgeon requires a "liver shrinking diet" which is a high protein meal replacement for breakfast, one with lunch (and a piece of fruit), a low fat high calcium snack (yogurt or cottage cheese), and dinner should be 4 oz. of lean meat and 1 cup of a non-starchy vegetable, or 2 oz of meat, the veggies, and a shake.

I started my diet on the 1st and the first day was kind of brutal, but now I have adapted and it is getting easier.  I have no bowel prep to do the night before the surgery.

I wish you all the best with your surgery!
