i'm the exact opposite!  i loaded up (pre-surgery) with all kinds of Crystal Light, Propel, and other sweetened waters - but now that i'm out of surgery i can't stand them!  :)

i'm doing water, straight-up, on the rocks.  you can have my flavored stuff!

Topic: Fluid sources
So I had issues right out of recovery with water.....made me nauseas. So I have been drinking Crystal Light and Aquafina FlavorSplash water for my fluid intake. I know they are sugar free, carb free & calorie free but they do have artificial sweeteners. I hope not too bad!!! I have the occasional cup of hot decaf tea as well with splenda!
What are you guys drinking?

Topic: Anyone have surgery with Dr. Boone/Dr. Higa from Fresno?
I know all Dr.'s are different but I was just wondering if anyone had surgery with Dr. Boone or Dr. Higa from Fresno? Just wanted to compare progress and ask questions about the nutrition guidelines????

It really depends on your program.. Mine has me on three pureed meals a day with NO snacks.
2 oz of pureed is about all I can get in. the meat alone is even less. I did have cottage cheese and yogurt for dinner last night.

My doc said water is most important for the first week, then protein, then exercise. I should be adding milk in place of some water this week.

Check with the doctor though.. so many programs are so different.

Good Luck!

Congratulations.  Just take it easy now and get your schedule worked out so you can take your vitamins when you should.  Sip water all day except at meals and walk.

Topic: RE: surgery on 27th- how are u doing?
I had surgery on the 26th.. most of my pain gone so on tylenol only for the last two days.. .but pain near my liver is driving me nuts.. They said no straw to eliminate drinking air.. but all I have done since surgery is get bubbles of air in my stomache... first few days I felt like hit by a mac truck.. thank God that went away.. I hate pain medicine and how it makes me feel.

I am not on protein suppliments but pureed protein right now.. I am not yet getting it all in but more each day and more water each day too. I hope to add milk on monday so that will allow me to increase my protien a  lot..

Walking is hard,.. I started at 375 on 5'8" body..and with my asthma I haven't walked much in months. But I am up to 45 minutes at a slow stroll. IT is a start..

I hope all of you are doing well...

Surprised on my home scale this morning at 361. About 5 lbs less than preop weight... I think..

After many different doctors and appointments and cancelled surgery dates, I finally stuck to the 27th.  I wanted to cancel about a million times the night before surgery, but didnt.  Now I am home with a successful surgery and lots of confusing feelings and new things to do!

Taking it day by day.

Hey there!

I had my surgery on the 26th. I can't say that I've been that pressed to get my protein. I said I'm gonna try really hard starting Monday. Honestly, I'm just really scared to put anything in. I know that sounds crazy, and I think my husband may have a "tude" with me because of it, but I just haven't been.  I came home Thursday night, and since then, I've just been really worried about drinking too much because I too have gotten that "full" feeling and I didn't like it. I havent been on any meds for pain either, so I've been winging it. I've been getting my fluids in I think....just not the protein. Not nearly as much as I've been told some people have in a day. How much liquid did they say you should be able to handle/hold?

I think it is important to aim for 3 meals a day with 2-3 snacks inbetween.
I had surgery on the 22nd jan and I can eat about half a small greek yoghurt at a time, but it does fill me up for hours. I can manage about 4 oz of liquid (soup or broth or shakes) in about half an hour.
Things are back to normal, pretty much, in my house- with the excpetion of me being the last left at the table instead of the first one finished!

Topic: Pureed Stage: How Often Are We Supposed to Eat?
How often should we be eating pureed foods?  Just three times a day, like regular meals?  5 times a day?  I'm really not sure.

Also, the dietician said that I will "eventually" move up to 1/2 cup of food at a time.  How soon/far away is "eventually?"  Days?  Weeks?  Months?  I should have asked, but it didn't cross my mind when I was sitting there with her.

To be safe, I'm sitting down to family meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and eating my teeny tiny little pureed portions.  I am not complaining, I'm super excited!  I'm just wondering if I'm supposed to be eating more?
