wow your post is close to something that I might right.  I told my doc they must not have done it right either!  I havent dumped, the worst I had was something stuck  or made me sick enough to stop eating it and adding it to my no no list.
At this point, I cannot say that I am glad I had this surgery.  I only lost 7 lbs preop (two weeks of liquids) and 20 lbs since surgery.
The jury is out.

Hi,
My surgery was on 1/15/10 and I am down 20 lbs.  I just bumped up my water because I was hungry, it has sure helped.  I get about 70-100 grams of protein from drinks a day.  I walk 5-7 times a week (a mile).  I wish I had lost more weight at this point, as I read about most people losing about 30 lbs by now.

I am hoping the water helps!

I'm here :-)  I spend most of my time on the RNY board -- so many questions!

My RNY was 1/19, and I've lost about 28 lbs.  Slower than I hoped, but I have PCOS and from what I understand that makes weight loss slower.  I'm having a lot of trouble getting all the liquids in, even though I feel like I'm drinking all the time, and I can't stand the protein shakes anymore.  I'm able to get enough protein from food, but I really need to find a shake that works for me.

I'm down a size or two and feel so much better and more limber.  My energy level isn't super-high yet; I have 3 little kids who wear me out -)

According to all the posts I've read, eventually we'll be able to eat almost anything, in moderation -- maybe you could let her know that.  Also, when she says she couldn't eat that little, you could let her know that this is the great thing about the surgery --  you're not hungry and your body holds much less than before, so it helps you make more healthy food choices.

Sounds to me like she's a bit jealous.  Maybe when she keeps saying "I just couldn't do it", ask her if she's thinking about the surgery, and let her know you'll answer any questions.

If all else fails, just keep changing the subject -- she'll realize eventually that you don't want to talk about it.

Thanks Mimi!  That gives me some food for thought!  Yeah I probably will not be able to avoid her.  Also, she is overweight, just like me.

I keep telling her, too, that I use to be that way!  LOVE my food, but I am learning to control it.

Is she overweight?  It sounds like she is trying to convince herself that eating is her life!   If she could stand to lose some weight, I would say (nonchalantly)  "I used to love my food too, but eventually it got me in lots of trouble"  If she's not overweight, I would say, "Some of us can eat more than others."  When she comments about that being all you're eating, I would say, "that's all I need!"  and/or "you can do anything once you set your mind to it."   I wouldn't be mean about it, but perhaps saying something would stop her comments.  IMO, not saying anything gives her the upper hand, which you don't want!  Ignoring her is great, but since you work with her, it sounds like it might not be possible.  Good Luck!

It's been two days since anyone posted!  Where are you guys?!  What's been going on?  How are you feeling?  How's the eating going on?  Have any of you had dumping?  I haven't had any so far - thank God!  How much weight have you lost since surgery?
Not much going on here in Charlotte, NC - been a little cold and dreary after a warm, gorgeous weekend!  I went mall walking yesterday, and today I am going to use the recumbent.  I've looked into a nearby gym, but wow, it's expensive.  I'm feeling more normal now, and am eating a little more, though still less than  800.  I've only lost 25 lbs. so I know I need to up the exercise.  I think I also need to have more protein shakes cause I still can't eat enough protein from food.  I'm getting tired of the shakes!  I've tried  all different shake recipes, but  protein is still the main ingredient!  I guess finding the right nutrition level with food/recipes and what and how much one can tolerate is an ongoing process.  Would love to hear from everyone!

I have this person I work with (luckly not in my department), she knows that I had the surgery, every time we see each other she keeps saying, "I couldn't do it. I LOVE my food."  Then goes on about all the food she loves to eat.  Then at lunch she see's me and goes, "That is all you are going to eat? I just couldn't do it." I was fine hearing it once or twice but EVERY time I see her it is like that.  I just don't know what to say.  I am very proud of my discision to have the surgery, it was a hugh step for me. But man! Should I say something to her? Or just let it be? I want to avoid her if I can. I have just run out of things to say.

I have lost 42lbs since I have started this journey, and feeling and looking good.

Yeup! I am always cold! My husband wanted to get me a snuggy for Valentine. I am always wrapped in blankets watching TV.  I also get hot flashes, just in my face and the rest of me gets cold. My mom told me I am getting hot flashes now! Man I hope not, I am only 32.  My mom said also about every 50lbs your body will stabilize but until then you will always be cold I don't know if that is true but my mom went through the surgery 11 years ago, and she is a nurse.  So who knows, every one is different. Well good luck, everyone!
