Hey y'all - I just found the "month" forums and thought I'd check in with everyone.  I had my RNY on Jan. 18, 2010 - am doing very well, except for the eating part.  I am bored with everything I eat - nothing is good and its such a chore to eat.  I'm still eating soups, eggs, yogurt, tuna, etc.  Next week I start soft foods - whatever that means.  To me, I don't think it's any different than eggs, tuna, etc.  What do y'all think?  Anybody on "soft foods", and what do you eat?

Hi, I am also new to the "monthly" forum. I had my RNY on 1/27. I am soooooooooo with you on the scheduled eating. I'm on a 5 phase diet. I'm on phase 3 now which allows me to eat- sugarfree jello, sf pudding, strained cream soups (which by the way they ddnt tell me until after i shopped that they had to be low fat low sodium soups), plain sf yogurt, cream of wheat, sf popsicles and ummmm i think that's it. Oh yeh, diluted fruit juices. I'm so thankful for this surgery, but I think I'm in the stage now where I'm thinking when will this get better. The thing I'm struggling with the most is drinking only 1 oz every 15 minutes or 4 oz per hour. I'm trying to get in all of my 80-90 grams of protein a day with my shakes that are 30 g each and 11oz. each. With the 4 oz per hour drinking limit it will take me 9 hours to drink all 3 shakes. I've been blessed that I haven't dumped yet and can keep everything down. In fact, I joked I think they ddn't do my pouch right because I can drink more than 1 oz in 15 minutes easily..... However, I've been advised to still sip and drink slow, which I'm doing. But, its difficult getting in all 3 shakes. I am doing my best to do everything right, but feel like i'm just not meeting the expectation of the 80-90 grms per day. Sorry mimi ddn't mean to ramble on and on.... well maybe vent is a better word, but was glad to hear this is feeling like a chore to someone else besides myself. I also don't think i'm losing as fast as I should be. I lost 17 lbs on the preop diet and have lost 3-4 lbs since surgery 2 weeks ago. SOOOOOOOOOOO thanks for letting me get that out. Hang in there, 6 months or maybe a year from now we'll look back and just like childbirth forget the pain and never regret a moment of this

wow your post is close to something that I might right.  I told my doc they must not have done it right either!  I havent dumped, the worst I had was something stuck  or made me sick enough to stop eating it and adding it to my no no list.
At this point, I cannot say that I am glad I had this surgery.  I only lost 7 lbs preop (two weeks of liquids) and 20 lbs since surgery.
The jury is out.

Hey Sweetie - don't be sorry for writing a lot - it feels good to vent -  we are all in this together.  Keep drinking, it seems to get better with each passing day. I am starting to drink more water.  Yesterday I drank a whole 20 oz. bottle in about an hour.   It's getting a little easier to sneak in some protein snacks.  Today I ate half of a protein bar for morning snack and the other half for afternoon snack.    Have any of you come up with some good recipes?  I bought some Half the Fat,  No Sugar Added, Butter Pecan Ice Cream today (Edy's brand) - 120 cal. for 1/2 C: 5 g fat;  3 g. sugar - my pouch said OK - sure was GOOD!  Nice break from the other cr**p, but I only plan on having it as a "once in a while treat".
I hope we can keep this January group going.  It's nice to talk to those that are around the same time frame as I am.  Come on y'all Janusurgeries - let's TALK - VENT - Share - or whatever.   How is everyone doing - Sweetie and I  would like to hear from you all.

Later!

Mini- I just started soft foods. She told me the best way to describe it is the foods I can't have.  I can't have pasta, rice, bread, hard vegetables, meats (chicken, pork, steak mostly), and salads. So I have been exploring my new foods! I am loving it!!!  I had Wendy's chili over the weekend.  A small cup (only .99) last me four or five meals! It was so good! Lets see I had lunch meat yesterday for lunch, and then made tunia salad (maynoses, mustard, tunia, and pickle ralish) for dinner and lunch today. I bought so new soups to try too. Oh, I also have had crap chucks that was really good too (good protein and vitamins). So far my pouch has been really good. I have had a couple times when I have not chewed my food all the way and it gets stuck, that is a little uncomfertable, and I don't like it, but it passes with in a couple of minutes.

The water for me is the hardest to get down. I was never a big water drinker before, so it is even harder now. I get about 20-30 oz in a day. The is the part I am working on the most but at least I know that. I will work on it more. Have you guys started your vitamins yet? The nurse just gave me mine on Monday to start. It is not to bad.

OOOps!  Missy, I guess I REALLY didn't understand what "soft diet" meant!  I've been eating pasta, well toasted bread, ground turkey, etc. (it's soft! :) !)  About the only things I haven't eaten are hard fruit/veggies, steak and of course sugar and junk food.  I figure as long as my tummy says OK, it's OK! :)

hey guys i had surgery on jan 7th. I was reading your posts and I just wanted to say something that was told to me.... "just because you can eat it, doesn't mean you should" I live by that saying when it comes to what I eat. But I don't really eat too much... it seems like I live on string cheese.

anyways best of luck to you guys! I hope you are losing the pounds like I am! :P
