I am having a rny on the 27th. I too am going thru this exact thing! And I am on day 3 of my ptifast/liquid diet. I think the fact that our best friend(food) has made a quick exit our brains are doing double time..What if...We will be ok and we will be much healthier in the future...My mom passed away at 53years of age...diabetes, high blood pressure, over weight, depression, oh I sure there are more...our job is to make sure we are here for our children and we have made a decision to be here.....GOOD LUCK! I will be thinking about you are you head into this amazing journey..chat soon..Laura
I had the same worries as you. I was worried about my kids more than anything. I think your thoughts are totally normal! I'm sure you will do fine!
I'm surprised too at how little pain I am in. The pain med used is good old paracetamol and I am very grateful for that as I'm not groggy or drugged feeling.
I was also very grateful for the advice I've read here online "walk walk walk sip sip sip" - best advice ever.
I did very poorly on the liquid diet. I was advised that I would be OK with 2 high protein shakes and 1 low carb meal. That worked for me. I was going bananas on that liquid diet.
My Dr said i would be fine to do that. She said I could not go over 40 grms of carbs per day. I was well below that

I often wondered where the real me has been? I then decided where the real me is going!!!
I think it is totally normally to question the unknown, it reinforces the fact that we're all human. I had my RNY on 1/8/09 and had no complications, and no intolerances to the thicker liquid diet I have been on since I got home. I am SO happy to have lost 30 lbs since my initial surgical visit and I am off 3 out of 4 diabetes medications and off the blood pressure meds. I am older than you guys but only wish I had this surgery before I had gotten diabetes and high blood pressure. This was a life saving surgery, no doubt about it.
I had my visit with my surgeon today and he congratulated me for how well I've done thus far and he reminded me that this surgery and the weight loos reduces my risk for cancer and stroke by 70% not to mention all the other stuff already mentioned.
I will add you to my prayer list and please know that you will be just fine. You are well prepared and you have a top notch surgeon that knows what to do. All of you are going to do great.
Big warm hugs
