Kim & Liz,

Congratulations on your surgeries next week, I am SO excited for you both.  Nerves are normal!  You will both do fine.  I am 2 weeks post op and have done wonderful since day 1.  I have posted my experiences on my blog and hope you find them helpful.  I encourage you both to walk, walk, walk as soon as you are able to in the hospital.  You will be SO glad you did.  I walked more than they told me to and was so glad I did.  I took 2 doses of pain med when I got home and haven't needed it since.  I really didn't need it at home, but I wanted to sleep well my 1st night home.  I did sleep in my recliner for 2 nights, I did this when I had my gallbladder removed and it really helped this time too.  When I did sleep in my own bed, I had some reflux but this resolved with some Pepcid (my doc told me to take it( and ALSO use an extra pillow and this works miracles.

I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers and we'll be saving you both a nice warm spot on the losers bench.

Hugs,
Barb

Hi there,

I am so sorry that you had to go through so much.  I am  2 weeks post op and when I over do it, my tummy will be sore.  Here's a hint on the reflux a night, I used a 2nd pillow for the 1st week and a half and this helped SO much.  I hope it will help you too.

My surgeon didn't focus so much on the protein as much as he did getting 7 to 8 small meals and have an intake of 500 calories per day.  UCSF's philosophy is quality and quantity not protein until the 3rd month.  Each small meal should have protein based on what they told me to  eat so I have been using Fitday.com to log my food to track calories and protein.

I sure hope this helps.  Hang in there, you had MAJOR surgery and more, and you need to allow yourself time to heal and rest.  Every day will get better.  Remember to try to get walking in too.

Hugs,
Barb

Yay, for us my surgery is scheduled for tuesday the day before yours. And I'm not nervous so much about the surgery. I more nervous about how I'm gonna feel afterwards. Well I know everything will be okay with your surgery. Just think positive. I think the pain is going to be all about how well you can tolerate it. But hmm.....its still questionable. Well good luck  on your surgery and for a speedy recovery.

My surgery date (January 28th!!!) is fast approaching.  I am so excited I can't believe it's almost here.  Although I can't wait, I am starting to get quite nervous.  I have three boys (12, 8 & 1 ) and hope that all goes ok not only during surgery but afterwards until I am completely healed.  I have just heard some horror stories.

I just try not to think of that and try to keep focusing on the how excited I am and how important it is to keep postitive.

Good Luck to Everyone - A wish from me to all for a healthy and speedy recovery.

Hey Nicky! Doesn't EVERY commercial seem like it's about food?  Ahhh. I can't wait for our big day!  I can't keep away from the scale...don't know why, it really rather silly of me.  Any how, good luck to you, and I can't wait to hear how you did!  Wendy

I was Lap-Banded on 1/20, but thought I'd also encourage you. You are a mother of 3 children. You already have the hardest job in the world. This will not be a cake walk, but it is do-able. Good luck to you!

Krazee,

Hello. We're sort of neighbors. I am in South Jersey/Philly area. I had my Lap Band surgery on 1/20 at Jeanes Hospital in Philly. Where did you have yours?

I think your hubby is right. Try to stay positive but know that you are allowed to complain! Your body and mind have been through a lot. It is a lot to process even when the procedure goes well and uncomplicated, but you have hit a stumbling block and it is important to have support. I am sorry you're going throguh this but continue to focus, as hard as that may be, on the better health you will achieve in the long run. You're a strong person for committing to such a lifestyle change so I know you can get through this bump in the road!

Not yet. Unfortunately I have a 8 1/2 month old son and am working on a 50 page comprehensive exam response for my dissertation! I think the workouts will have to wait till 2/17 (when my comps are done!). But good going Jaime! That is awesome that you have been able to work out. I'm proud of you!
