Denise,

That is great 2.5 weeks!!! I have help from my siste-in-law while watching my kids while I am in hospital as my husband works nights.

My husband is very supportive but in his new job he is not able to take the time off with me which makes me very nervous and probably what is causing me the most anxiety but I won't tell him that.  My 12 yr old son is a grat help with my 8 and 1 yrd old but as you know the 1 yrd old sometimes just wants thier mom :)

My mom is will be "stopping by" after work to help but nothing set in stone when I get out of the hospital on Jan 31 but will be off to sunny Florida on the 5th and I will not have her around after that :(

I will be thinking of you on the morning of our surgery, good luck!!!  Keep in touch I'm sure we can help eachother through the after surgery.  As I have seen from all the great people on these forums, everyone is very helpful and supportive.  I am so gald I joined :)

Congratulations Kim,  I know it can be nerve racking and exciting both at the same time. You will do fine. I had my surgery last Monday Jan 19th and got home yesterday. I have a four year old.... and luckily I have the support from my husband. I hope you have the same.

Good Luck to you, keep us posted!

Hello!

I am Denise and I am scheduled for the 28th also.  I also have small children, 2 boys ages 7 and 3.

I am not nervous for the surgery (Center of Excellence and LAP) or for the pain of it at all, as I am young (31) and healthy (no co mobilities) and have had surgeries before.   (YES...after having 2 kids with no meds...this should be a breeze)

I am sort of nervous about life after surgery...or not really nervous...it just still seems kind of "unreal" to me.  I just can not wrap my head around NOT wanting or being able to have sweets or being full after 3 bites.

Going to nutrition class, support group and reading all of the success stories here have really helped me though.

How long do you have help for with your kids?  I have help for 2.5 weeks but am still very nervous about not being able to pick up my 3 year old.

I know you think you may have not done the right thing or you feel you have doubts about what you just did ....TRUST ME...SO DID I!!

I was Jan 19Th too.  I had a hernia repaired that i didn't know ihad and i have a drain tube in as well. I weighed 279 on surgery day. Came home on wed (3 days later) and weighed 299. Yeah..20 weight gain. WTF?? So trust me i know what your going through. I cried the first few days home and kept saying why did i do this..this was a big mistake..i cant live like this for the rest of my life. Yeah..pretty much had mini panic attacks off and on all day/night.

Thank God for my poor husband and my mother-n-law. Hubby was at my beckon call and was my sounding board. My wonderful mother-n-law was perfect...she would text message me from her work a few times a day. She called but never stayed on the phone too long just long enough to give me some sympathy and then would hang up. She rocked. Now, after some much needed sleep i am feeling pretty darn good mentally about all of this. it DOES get better( not so much easier but better) and eating healthy for the rest of my life makes me happy...at least now i know ill have the rest of my life to eat.

I joked with the girls in the OR right b4 they put the mask on my face and said...never mind i changed my mind...they took me very serious and said well tell us now....i just winked and laughed and said...lets do this thing!!   Whats done is done. You DID have it and in a few weeks when the weight is falling off and you have more energy your going to be glad you did. It sounds like you just feel unprepared. Well. we will change all of that. Stick with us kid!!

OK..now down to post op stuff.

I was told to stay on clear liquids for the first week. (64oz a day)

2ND week clear liquids but i can add in my protein drink.

3rd or 4Th week when he thought i was ready to advance then go to puree food.
( If you have to chew it its not pureed enough.)

then like week 6 go to soft food

then to reg diet.

If you want more info about it...instant message me and ill give you more of a run down. I have lots of helpful info from my surgeons office and nutritionist office. Ill be glad to tell you whatever i know. Too sore to sit here and type it out though...LOL ( might even give you my cell # and you can just take notes..LOL)

Its going to be OK...we are here for you. I was the same day as you so i REALLY know what your going through. Everyone on here is going through this too...ask away!!

I wish i was there to give you a hug...but this will have to due (((HUG)))

11 People on a Rope

Eleven people were hanging on a rope, under a helicopter,
10 men and 1 woman.
The rope was not strong enough to carry them all,
so they decided that one had to leave,
otherwise they were all going to fall.
They weren't able to choose that person,
until the woman gave a very touching speech.
She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope,
because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything
for her husband and kids or for men in general,
and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return.
As soon as she finished her speech,
all the men started clapping .........

No, it really hasn't been bad.  I just ordered the unflavored Unjury yesterday to boost my protein but I have the same thoughts you have, I too am sort of funny about textures too. Let me know what you think and I will do the same.

Please keep in touch.

I too don't have a lot of energy and also don't feel so great when I first wake up.  My guess is that it comes with the territory.  I start to feel better a few hours later but am finding myself slowly seeming to get more energy.  I think it will get better as we get used to our new way of life.  Keep up the good work!

Sounds like you are doing great too!  I know how you feel.  When I first got home, I would be super stuffed from a few bites of a pudding cup!  Sounds crazy, I know! Keep up the good work!
