How on earth are we supposed to be getting our 1200 calories a day?  I didn't realize we were supposed to be eating that much.  I have logged in every thing that I have eaten in my fitday and I am lucky to reach 600 calories a day.  Soup, SF jello, pudding, and protein shakes just dont have that many caories!  Maybe things will be different once I am fully healed!

How many calories a day are you eating?  Do you feel full after the first few bites?

Kathleen,
Welcome Home! It feels good to get home, doesn't it? Glad you're doing well with the protein and fluids- I had no problems with that either. Just walk around whenever you can, even if you have to wander around a store. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Congratulations, Vickie!
I had my surgery 1/6 and have been doing well. Just think, next week at this time you'll be home posting about your experiences! Good Luck, you'll be in my prayers.

Kim,
I had open RNY with Dr. Caruana at Sister's on 1/6 and have been doing well! I had a few complications in the hospital (severe nausea and oversedation from the pain meds) that kept me there an extra day, but that's not too unusual. I ended up refusing all pain meds except plain tylenol after 2 days because of the nausea. The nursing staff at Sister's is FANTASTIC- I'm a nurse practitioner, so of course I know how things should be, and they really impressed me. My incision is now completely healed and I'm feeling well- just a little bit tired.

Like you, I read so many horror stories about what it would be like afterwards that I was a nervous wreck. I have been pleasantly surprised! I have had no problems with getting in fluids and proteins, and all of the allowed foods that I've been eating I have tolerated well. I feel so confident that this was the right decision for me! You're right, you do need to stay positive right now- are you going to the support group at Synergy on Tuesday?

Francine,

Welcome home and I am so glad you're doing well.  Walk, walk, walk, and after you rest, do it some more.  The gas will leave I promise you.  The Gas-X strips might help to but the walking and drinking of water really helped me.

I'm telling you it works great and I never feel hungry yet I am getting all I should be.  I need to boost my protein a little but I'm working on it.

Even though you have mixed feelings (who doesn't), you have taken a step toward your health.  The good news is there is still plenty of time to be educated about this.  The internet has TONS of information, and the surgeon websites have lots of examples of postop instructions, if for some reason you can't get enough from your caregivers.  I don't regret what I did, but I still have my moments of "what have I done".  I find OH to be a great place to get ihformation and use up my nervous energy reading posts.  Best of luck to you!

Hi newbarb2:
GREAT idea - the even hours and odd hours idea.  It seems so simple.  I'm now on thick liquids.

Topic: RE: 1/14 lapbander update any others?
Hi Spoken4 and the other Jan bandsters:
My surgery was 1/6 so just a bit ahead of yours (18 days out today).  I have put my journey on my blog if you are interested.  I have lost 14 lbs so far, most in the first 2 weeks.  I started eating thick liquids and purees this week, and I think my calories are too high because my weight loss stalled.  I have eaten some mushies well chewed, and it all goes down fine.  I can feel just a bit of restriction, but also was ravenously hungry on liquids only so I will look forward to that first fill.  I went back to work and find that I am tired at the end of the day of sitting in chairs, and want to lay down to stretch out.  I'm using most of my abdominal muscles with no problem now, but still have some twinges when I move a certain way.  Incisions rub on clothes - bra especially is hard to take without putting some padding between my bra and my incisions.

BUT - my tight pants are looser already - WOOT!  I can already see the difference of those few pounds.

Let's have a wonderful year and be back to celebrate next New Year!
