My surgeon has me take a dose if I get a little constipated and it takes a couple of hours, but then it works.  The hard part is getting both tbspoons down.  YUCK!

Hope you get some relief!

You probably already know this, but just in case, my surgeon also said if i got constipated to check my water intake.  Sure enough if I go a day or two below 50oz, I have a problem.  But as long as i am keeping to to at least 50oz, no issues.

You both sound just like me.  I got so bored and the more I walked, the less I hurt.  I was even getting up at two and three a.m. to walk.  The nurses were making fun of me.  LOL

Sitting was much more painful.  I guess i got stiff!  I too had my laptop and tried to stay busy!

Good luck and good to see you are doing so well!

Thank you so much for making me realize it. And, the feeling of expecting too much too soon.... Is def there! I just need to take time!

To answer your question...every surgeon is different.

At my post-op visit which was 9 days after my surgery, my surgeon said to try the soft (pureed foods) for 2 days and if I tolerated all of it then I could move to the final (mechanical soft) phase.  So I tried the soft foods like cottage cheese, yogurt, mashed potatoes, etc last Thurs and Friday with no problems at all then I started the final phase last Saturday.

My favorite unfortunately is the low fat string mozzarella cheese sticks. I have tried others like lite luncheon meet and have handled it very well.  I strongly recommend the Hillshire farms prepackaged luncheon meets in the dark reddish brown cardboard packaging.  However, I have not been able to tolerate tunafish on triscuits well.  I had a little tunafish on 4 triscuits and lets say I should've stopped at 3 or not at all.  That was such an unpleasant feeling but I am chalking it up to a learning experience.  Maybe I needed to add more lowfat mayo to it - I dunno.  I just know that I will always stop at 3.

I haven't vomited at all yet and I'm thankful for that!  BTW...the MOM that I took last night didn't really help me at all.  I'll have to ask my support group tonight for more advice.

Great to hear your doing well !!!!

I can totally understand the "bored" part of it.  OMG I wanted out of that hospital so bad..... lol.... I think the fact of just being there and not knowing exactly when they were going to let me go was making me more miserable then the after effects from the surgery.... LOL.  The nurses were laughing at me because I was constantly crusin' the halls with my little IV bag in tow. I think I put on enough miles in those halls that I could have walked home.... LMAO.  But the more you walk the more it helps.

Keep in touch and let us all know when your home and how your progressing.

Take care,
Kim

I can understand your frustration.  I'm only 4 days post op and right now I'm still feeling the major discomfort from the gas and incision areas. Although the weird thing is, I don't feel like anything is different inside (if you know what I mean).  My Corporal (who had RNY done almost 2 years ago) said this is normal, and he agreed with some of the other posts that it takes a good month or so before you really start feeling "great".  He keeps telling me to just relax, do my walking and everything will fall in place. He said the first week or two is the hardest, because of the major trauma and shock to your body, let alone all the emotional and hormonal changes. He told me that he cried for two days straight after coming home from the hospital, thinking to himself "what the h*ll did I just do to myself?"  But if you saw him now, saw his results and his total state of excitement every time he talks to someone about life after RNY, it is a total inspiration.

I don't know about you, but I know I'm probably expecting too much too soon and it gets frustrating. Sounds to me like your doing real well so don't let things get you down. Everything takes time.  (now if I could only convince myself of that I'd be doing good.... LOL )

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Kim

HI!  I am still in the hospital, doing GREAT!  Surgery was uneventful ... thank God :)  I have minimal pain ... my c-sections were 100% more painful.  I am sipping and walking and bored lol.  I made hubby bring me the laptop so I had something to do.  I got off my morphine 3 hours ago, and have only used it minimally .... I feel great.  Thanks to all the info you guys have given me about post op!  Well, off to sip and walk again ... Good luck to the rest of you guys who still have surgery coming up .... and thanks again for all the information throughout the year!
