Welcome Home !!! I'm glad to hear that all went well for you.
I had my surgery on 1/23 and so far so good. I still have that tightness around one of my incisions too but I can feel it getting better with every passing day.
Keep us posted on your progress.
Take care,
Kim

Topic: I'm home!!!
I was discharged tonight around 8pm and am getting settled into my 'bed' for the next little bit - my sis-in-law set me up on the family room couch with a table with bottled water so I don't have to go up and down stairs. I'm gonna write this and snooze for a bit.
I remember being so nervous when I got to the hospital and then they finally took me back to get ready and she weighed me and I was happy that I lost 10lbs on the pre-op diet. I was so afraid I wasn't going to lose anything! My hubby and SIL came back to sit with me and we watched The Fresh Prince reruns until it was time for me to go. They put a cap on my head and wheeled me back. I remember scooting over to the OR table and that's about all she wrote. I woke up in recovery and was super groggy and also pretty nauseous. I was so scared I was going to vomit and worried about how bad that was going to feel!! She gave me some Zofran (sp?) and with some deep breathing I was okay. I got into my room about an hour and a half later and they started my morphine drip. I got up and walked around 10pm and felt a little woozy but made it okay.
The next morning I got up and walked again, this time going to another unit and up and around their nurse station and back. I could feel the gurgling in my tummy from my intestines waking up and I have been burping and farting like a frat boy ever since lol....they don't smell at all but you wouldn't think so if you heard one! My surgeon came in to take my drain out and that felt so weird. The suture just below that is the one that's really sore, it is so tight it left a div-it in my belly. I have 6 really small ones including my drain hole. They are barely noticeable except for the tape except for the bigger one that is pretty sore. I was able to shower by myself and hubby helped me get dressed and I'm finally home. I just feel really tired, you never get good rest in the hospital between visitors and getting poked and prodded every hour or two. I was also very happy to get the catheter out, that sucked so bad!! I've never been so happy to put panties back on! I did not enjoy that experience at all.
I'm getting my water down okay and even some protein mix ins but my surgeons only concern is getting 48oz of water in and then we'll work the rest in later. It does take some getting used to with your sip size because you feel instantly full so I'm doing cap fulls now. I start on pureed foods on Monday. My SIL pureed and froze ice cube trays of tuna and carrots for me so they'd be ready. It was really great to have her here.
Okay, more later on when I'm up and about but I'm here, I did it and I'm so happy I did!!!
xoxo

Topic: RE: What are you Jan 12'ers eating post op?
Bariatric Advantage offers calcium losenges. That is what I use. they have them in cinnamon flavor. I like the tase f them and I don't get sick from them.
Viactiv makes a calcium chewable also. I have heard other people here talk about them, but I have never used them.
I hope you start to get somes foods in that agree with you. What are you trying so far?

See my reply to other post on this subject.
I''m in pain and tired and need to sign off for the night, but wanted to respond to a fellow FM patient.
Yes, I someday will become and advocate for FM patients and focus on those who are obsese from the medications and lack of excercise.
So many medical professionals do not understand it. Yes, the surgery will cause pain, but it will help lesson the pain eventually of our other illnesses like osteoarthritis. We will be able to walk a little more or go back to water core class to feel a little better. My son is so busy right now but he is going to help me fight this. The bariatric center should pay for this preop testing. Most of it is only good for 30 days. That time has past as of today
They think we haven't done anything to help our pain and that we ccomfort our pain with food.
They are ignorant on this subject and we must do more to educate them. Food does NOT comfort our pain. I don't use food to comfort my pain or anything else. I am still heavy and can't loose weight because of all the inclusive illnesses causing lack of excercise and all the side effects of the medications I am on.
I have come along way with cutting down on meds and managing my pain. I have seen about 4 pain therapist in the past 3 years plus group therapy. I have learned the techniques. Yes, hot stone massage and whirlpool help, but who can afford it.
Ihave to go. Let's chat later.
Thanks for support

Topic: RE: Nausea
Kandice,
Have you called your surgeon's office and asked about it? I had my surgery on the same day and I haven't had much nausea at all. The only time I got really nauseaous and felt like I was going to lose it was the day after surgery when they made us drink that nasty stuff so they could do the xrays to check for any leaks in the rerouted plumbing. Thank god they were quick with the medicine to calm our stomachs as soon as we got back to the room. My surgeon's office told me to call them and let them know if I was having continuous nausea after being released.
I still get a feeling now and then, but it feels more like there is a burp trying to come up and it just can't make it. I also noticed a nausea type feeling if I bend over for any lenght of time. Again, I think mine is due to still having some gas stuck in there because it goes away a few seconds after straightening back up.
Don't be afraid to call your surgeon's office and inquire about it.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Take care,
Kim

I understand what you are saying. However, I have three expert specialist: Rhuematologist/Fibromyalgia, Neurologist/Sleep Specialis and my internal medicine doctor (been with her 20 years) who have worked with me dilligently over the past 3 years espeially the last year to get me to the best physical/phsychologiscal state I've been in ffor a long time. I have worked with 2 pain management thereapist to get my pain to the best level possible. We all agreed that RNY surgery was the next step and I was ready. I discussed this with the surgeon, nurse coordinator, pshychologist and therepist. Everything was approved and ready to go.
But to your point of the busiest center. I agree. Beginning to see it as like a puppy mill, but for obsese patients. I only had a couple of minutees with the surgeon. I was upfroont about FM.
this was there concern at the end. However, I am the one going thru the lifestyle change and pain. Not them. I trust my team of specialist. They didn't take the time at St. Vincent to read the medical records that I gave them on day one from each of these doctors indicating I need bariatric surgery.
They breacht that getting insurance approval is the hardest thing to get. Not true. I got my approval almost immediately. Bariatric office didn't respond to it for a month.
God Bless
