Topic: RE: surgery the 28th..... i feel like crap
HI! I had my lapband on 28th too! I came home thurs afternoon. I think they kept me overnight because dr. forgot to sign off narc rx before discharging me. OH well, I was too comfortable to leave anyway! LOL I loved the hospital bed where I could sleep up!
I am still in some pain. Shopped on the way home and last night. Today I think I will take it easy! OUCH!

Sandra,
Great to hear that your doing well also !!
I know what you mean about the protein shakes ! I can't stand any of the powder mix ones, although the Muscle Milk Light (pre made in the little boxes) isn't too bad. The liquid stage was killing me. Made my belly and intestines talk and gurgle way too much which is why I dared to start trying some soft and puree foods earlier.
Keep in touch and good luck on your road to a new life !!
Take Care,
Kim

Hi Kim
Glad to hear your doing well. I also am doing great,...No Pain,No gas...Getting my liquids in OK, but I hate the protein shakes..so I worry about getting my protein in...I hope I'll do fine once I can get protein from meat.
Best of luck to you and also Lots of luck to your Husband.

Melissa, its so great to hear about your joy at being under 300lbs. I felt the same way! As a matter of fact it was one of my first goals. One thing about where I live is the weather is never really that bad. I have been able to take walks and that has been nice. I still have problems with my water intake as well. When you say that your down a total of 83 lbs but 12 lbs from your pre op what does that mean?

The first few nights I slept on my back propped up with 2 pillows. I laid a heating pad over my incisions and that helped a TON.
Keep your chin up...it gets better

Topic: How are the Jan 23rd post op friends doing?
Hi all.....
Was just wondering how all the Jan 23rd post op friends are doing?
So far so good for me..... Still feel like I have a little gas left in me but other than that, things are going pretty good.
I've tried some soft (scrambled eggs) and puree foods the last two days and everything went down well. I actually felt better after I ate that stuff then when I drink protein shakes or other liquids (other than my water). I seem to have to burp a lot after drinking the protein shakes no matter how slow I try to drink them.
My husband is feverishly trying to get my old treadmill working again (just waiting on a replacement part) so that I can really get down to some serious walking. With the snow and ice outside it's impossible to do any serious walking outdoors. I've been riding my stationary bike instead but prefer walking. My husband is headed in for Lap Band surgery on 2-11-09 so I'll soon have a walking partner.
I hope everyone else is doing well and hope to hear from some of you soon.
Take Care all,
Kim

Well, I guess we all are different. I had my surgery on the 27th and I'll tell you one thing! I think I had a harder time feeling better in the hospital then when I came home. And I just got home yesterday. Today I was feeling like a champ I even went back to work cause they need me just a few hours though. I will be off the weekend and back to work for a full day on monday. If I don't feel lazy. I'll see. Well anyways I have been walking walking away. And I feel so good when I do I start to feel sore and tired when I've been sitting to long. I really haven't had to take too much pain killers. I have tylenol with codeine but I bought baby tylenol cause that other stuff tastes crappy and can't handle it. I was feeling a little gassy but the walking helps out so much! Well hope everyone who's had surgery this month and within the last few days is doing great. Can't wait to start shedding the pounds off!

Not quite 2 weeks post op - I had my surgery on the 20th. I'm down 12 pounds since my pre op testing appointments (total of 83 pounds). But the big celebration is that I'm under 300 pounds for the first time in YEARS!!! I almost cried when I stepped on the scale.
I'm on my puree diet and looking forward to being able to start getting back to my workout routine and start martial arts. It's so cold here, they don't want me to walk outside, so my husband has been taking me to the mall to do walking.
I'm also having trouble getting in all the fluids and protien, but I keep trying. I don't seem to have as much of a problem with cramps in my pouch as I did a couple days ago....but still not ready to shave my legs!!! LOL

Topic: RE: Who's scheduled for the 27th?
Dear aroundtuit,
It's great to hear from you and know that everything went okay! I got my band on Tuesday as planned, and it went extremely well. I am feeling very thankful for all the good care and support I have received. I too got a lot of fluid pumped in and gained 9 pounds the day of surgery! It is coming off almost as quickly as it went on though, and it helps clear all that yucky anesthesia out of your system. I was on clear liquids for 3 days and the 3rd day was kind of hard, mainlhy due to feeling weak from the lack of calories. Today I have been on full liquids and protein shakes, and I feel MUCH better. I even went out to a movie with my husband this afternoon! But now I am tired and ready to curl up on the couch for a while.
I was surprised to find that my surgeon only needed to make 2 incisions to get my band placed! I have one that's maybe half an inch long over the top of my stomach, and the one where the port is is maybe 2 inches at most. Pain has been minimal but I have to admit I am sore.
I am delighted to have a buddy to share this experience with. Please keep in touch and we'll get each other through this!!

Hi kcb1955 and others! Well, it's done, my lap band surgery was Wednesday. Everything is going well, but I'm already tired of the clear liquid diet. I think it's mainly because I'm feeling like I need to use the restroom all the time, but I'm retaining a lot of fluid right now. I did rupture a blood vessel in my left eye during surgery for some strange reason, and they say it will take 2-3 weeks to clear up - yuck. But I'm just hanging around the house today, and was hoping your surgery went well. Please stay in touch.
