Hi there: I also went back to work earlier than most people with my surgery. I really wanted to be in some meetings. But then I decided to take it easier and during the next week I worked from home and worked some half days. Even this past week, which was my first full week back, it was mostly normal but I was very tired in the evenings. So please pace yourself! Maybe you are more fit and younger than me, however!

Apparently it's not unusual for people with asthma to have a reaction with surgery. My surgeon asked me to bring my inhaler to the hospital just in case, so apparenty some people need help with their lungs. Just remember also that your physical stamina is probably not at its highest and take care. Congrats on your surgery!

Don't worry about the weight right now. Concentrate on healing and following postop instructions. It's not uncommon for people to gain weight after surgery due to fluid changes and inflammation, or the body holding on. You will see the weight drop soon!

How different two different doctors can approach this. I'm supposed to be on clear liquids for a whole week. I'm so tired and weak, I can't imagine that this is good for a body. I have 7 incisions! I have no idea why so many. In addition, I ruptured a blood vessel in my left eye, and so I look like a mess! I can't wear my contacts, and my last pair of glasses has an extremely old prescription, so I can't see well. Can't see, can't eat, can't bend, this is nots! I know it will get better, but I'm pretty down right now. Can't wait to have a little nourishment. I'm so glad to know this is going well for you. On the up side, I think i've lost about 20 lbs since going on the liquid diet 10 days before surgery and now!

I can't help you with the asthma question but I wanted to wish you well. Welcome home and feel better soon. Call your pulmonologist if you haven't already.

Congrats! I'm glad things are going smoothly. Each day will get better. I'm so looking forward to the pureed food stage - I'm very tired of the shakes. On the other hand, I don't really want to eat anything. Anyway, the point is that things will normalize over time. Stay focused on today. Best wishes.

Welcome Home !!
I felt hungry too that first night after surgery but then when I had my first "cold tray" of hospital food which consisted of juice and the most horrible sugar free jello I ever tasted I wan't hungry any more.
When I came home the next night my husband made himself something to eat that evening and it smelled so good, but the thought in my mind of if I even tried real food kinda curbed the cravings...LOL
You'll be eating real foods again before ya know it. I'm only 8 days out and I'm already eating soft and puree foods and so far so good.
Don't get disappointed about not losing any right off the bat. Your body is in shock and has probably shut down, thinking your trying to starve it. I didn't notice any weight drop off until just the last two days. I had nightmares that I would have this surgery and still wouldn't be able to lose any weight, but now I'm starting to see some results.
Take care and hope all continues to go well for you.

Wow... what a shocker that must have been when they told you it was going to be open and not lap, but we are glad to hear you are home.
I found that the recliner chair was much more comfortable the first few days out of the hospital too. No way could I lay flat in the bed.
Slow down though, and give your body some time to recover. The heck with work !! No job is worth your health.
Take care,
Kim
