Hi Karen,

Every DR has different dietary restrictions based, I suppose, on their own research and favorable outcomes w/ previous patients.  I was on a diet of 2 Atkins shakes (low carb) a day and for dinner 4 oz of lean protein and 1/2 cup of vegetables.  We had surgery on the same day and I was on clear liquids until last Friday.  Then pureed food for two weeks, however, it must be protein ONLY for 2 months.  After that I can start to add veggies, then @ 4 months fruits.  Complex carbs only after I've lost 75% of my weight and no protein shakes at all.  I truly feel your angst--I'm already tired of pureed YUCK and only protein,  but as has been said before, WE know this isn't  "the easy way out" .  Just picture yourself a year from now and I know it will get better.

Hugs, Tracy

I am sitting with everyone else on this one. I find it hard to cook, but will do it...I found since only 3 of them are eating I prepare double what they need.  Then the next two nights they can do leftovers.  Where there is a will there is a way...LOL..Hubby also does some of the cooking, but the smells get to me and preparing my youngest plate has brought me to tears...."just one little bite?" The willpower monster keeps putting his head in where it is not wanted.....Go away monster! LOL
Good luck with your sugery, it will be here in no time!

I don't really find it hard at all.  On superbowl I cooked Chili and all the dips and subs etc.  I craved the subs because of the bread, but that is just until they were out of sight.  It is VERY hard not to TASTE what you are cooking.  Like the chili I made, I had to hold back from tasting and let my DH do it.  I have a 15 month old and breaking her food up to give her is hard because if a piece was too big I would just bite the other half off, I found myself still doing this, but caught myself and spit out the other half.  I went into this telling myself " I did this surgery to myself and for myself, I won't let my kiddos suffer by not cooking for them" .... I won't lie though, the smell of anything cooking makes my mouth water, whether I am cooking or someone else is ;)  Good luck, you will do just fine!

like i said before i know your pain. i had surgery on the 12 of jan and i was on a liquid diet for three weeks and i was going crazy. the funny thing is that i would nearly pull my hair out when i smelled the food being prepared but afterwards when i saw it it kind of grossed me out. just take it one day at a time and it will get better. im now in the mushy food stage but i find that im staying more with the liquid stuff makes me feel fuller(weird). can you have protein shakes try having 4 of those every day and you wont want to eat. also my doctor told me that if you feel hungry drink water. i think it is mostly in our head. like the previous post said we crave our confort food. try to do things to keep your mind occupied, and before you know it, 1 week will have passed. i think you can have sf popsicles as part of liquid diet, but before you have one call your dc. office and ask

Hi Karen.  I understand what you're going thru.  I was on liquids for 2 weeks and have been on pureed foods for the last week.  It was tough, but before you know it, you'll be able to eat other things.  Just try to remember this is a good thing you are doing for your new stomach.

I'm in the same boat.  I started the liquid diet on 1/11.  I had my surgery on 1/20.  I'm supposed to go to pureed foods tomorrow - thank god.

So, after 23 days It's getting to me, too.  I made soup today to puree and freeze for my next stage of eating and it was all I could do to keep myself from eating the soup as it was.

I know that part of this is me wanting my comfort food.  I think the other part is natural - we want something more substantial.

Take it one day at a time - or one shake at a time.  It helped me to try to mix up the liquid options a bit (as long as I got my protein).

You're doing fine.  Before you know it you'll be onto pureed.  In the meantime, keep us posted.
