I had surgery on January 12.  Our doctor doesn't want us to have carbs or starches until we have lost 50% of our excess weight so I'm not there yet!

I eat snacks everyday as I wasn't getting enough calories in the beginning which slowed my weight loss for two weeks.  I eat either 2 tbps of peanut butter or a protein bar for snacks.  The protein bars travel easy!

I am so sorry that you have had complications and depression.  I had surgery on 1/19th and although I have not had any complications other then being allergic to the adhesive, but I have had a hard time with depression.  I did have some before but it is worse now.  It is hard because my husband and I used to go out to eat for our entertainment, and now it just doesnt seem worth it.  My husband has also lost just about 5 pounds less then me and he hasn't had the surgery.  etc. etc, etc.   Just make sure you are open with your doctor, you should call them and let them know.  You are not alone, It is a huge life adjustment.

Well things are going ok I guess. Surgery was rough for me I have had many complications and still dealing with them daily. I am unable to take the vitimins needed they make me sick so i just stoped taking them all together. I am down 45 pounds which is great and feel so much better about my self still got more to go. I am fighting depression now as well it has taken a toll on my emotionaly physically and mentaly. Just wondering if any one else is going through this or if for some reason I am just a UNlucky one. Well congrats to all of you that are losing my you all have continued sucess.

Hi Karen,

I'm not a January surg person, I'm a long time grad, but like to check in on the newbies once and a while to refresh my memory of the importance of things done when you are fresh and new...Anyway, I still do 5-6 small meals 2-3 of which are snacks...Here are some thoughts, I still use these regularly :

1 slice deli ham, turkey or roast beef, a little slather of spicy mustard and wrap it around a lf cheese stick

1 stick of an Oh Yeah wafer protein bar, sometimes put a tsp of pb on top

hard boiled egg and 2 slices of precooked bacon

1/2 an apple with tbsp pb with extra protein powder mixed in

a couple of homemade protein balls ( really love choc & pb flavor )

***Once you're Nut allows a few complex carbs ( be careful with the carbs though they can really slow your progress ) you might also add :

1 oz lf cheese slice toasted on arnolds double protein bread

lf colby jack cheese with 1/2 serving of hard pretzel sticks or cheddar pretzel mini's

You all are doing great ...Keep up the good work...

Topic: RE: Lettuce - I miss it, when can I have it?
I tried chewing a piece of lettuce this weekend just to see ( I did spit it out) it seemed like it just balled up a lot and even though it was breaking down it seem to stick together...did you chew it that much or less? I always chew everything to death and then by the time i'm done I still think I can't swallow it.

I have been told that I can have lettuce at the 3 month mark. I am missing salads so bad, I used to eat a chicken ceasar salad wrap almost everyday at work. I can't wait to eat it, I was told that it is because your stomache has a hard time digesting it.
I am counting the days until I can eat it. I have had a little bit of spinach in a dip and that went well.

It is so nice when you can add more foods and variety into your diet. I added some jerky in this weekend, OMG that tasted so good...

Wow everyone is doing so well!!  Congratulations to all you January post oper's!!
I had my RNY on Jan 13th and am down only 36 lbs.  I feel like my weight loss is moving so slowly even though I get in all my protein and water, exercise almost daily, and keep my calories and carbs down.   I'm sure it'll get better soon though.

Congrats to all and keep up all the great work!!!

I was able to have lettuce at the 2 month mark, i was given a list of things i could eat at that point, the only thing about the lettuce is that they dont want you to eat iceburg lettuce, it has no nutritional value, well at least thats what my doctor said, so i eat salads all the time but like with romaine lettuce and only with any kind of vinagarette dressings, no more ranch or thousand island...
