Topic: RE: New here to the Board
Welcome to the board, foxy!
I'm staying with my parents when I come home from the hospital, until I'm able to do things for myself and am in a routine. Luckily, they live only 15 minutes from me, so if I need something my mom could come over here to get it. I'm just packing as if I'm going on a trip- the essential toiletries (although mom likely has anything that I may forget), loose clothing, comfy shoes to go for walks, jammies and slippers, books, CHAPSTICK! I'm taking my protein powders and vitamins over there today, so that will be set. We already went shopping for post-op foods and they are at their house already. Don't forget your cell phone and charger!
Good Luck with your surgery!

Topic: RE: nervous...
Sheda,
I'm not as nervous about the surgery itself as I am about how I'll feel afterwards. Not the pain, because they have medicine for that. I'm nervous that I'll feel sick and nauseated all the time and that I won't be able to tolerate anything. I absolutely hate to feel nausea. Don't worry about the OR being too cold- they should give you those nice heated blankets before you go in!!
As for the gum, I guess that you're not the odd woman out about swallowing it- several others posted here that they do, also. I have never swallowed my gum, and I am a big chewer. That is one thing that I may cheat on post-op, since I would never swallow it, it should not do any harm. I'll ask the surgeon to be sure that's the only reason, of course!
Good Luck with your surgery- these next few days are going to fly by.

Hi Tamara! Welcome to the Jan. board. Your date will be here before you know it. Do you have your vitamins, protein powders, and post-op foods all set to go? The time will fly by.
I added you to the Jan. surgery list. Be sure to post here so that we know how you're doing.

Jess,
Welcome to the Jan. forum. This is a real supportive place, so come here and read or post whenever you're nervous! Anxiety before surgery is normal, they say. If that's the case, then I'm really normal!
My insurance approval was also easy and painless. It seems as if everything just worked out OK, from the initial visit with my PCP, followed by the Nutritionist, Psych, surgeon's visit, insurance approval, pre-op diet and nutrition class, and pre-op testing. The whole process from start to surgery date was only 3 1/2 months. I do feel bad for those who have such a tough time dealing with their insurance companies.
Good Luck with your surgery, and be sure to post here so that we know how you're doing!

Topic: RE: 3 More Days!!!
Hi, Jessica!
Welcome to the Jan. forum! My surgery is on the 6th, and I'm getting more nervous by the hour. I think that all the preparations are what's making me nervous- I have no doubts at all that having the surgery is what I need and want to do. It's just making sure that everything is done beforehand.
I agree with you- I'm also very excited about the month off of work! That will give us time to be feeling better and to get used to our new way of eating. Not to mention I won't have to be getting up early and going out in the snow in the mornings- although you don't have to worry about that part!
Good Luck with your surgery, and be sure to post on this forurm so we know how you're doing.

Maria,
You are SO organized- I'm jealous! I have everything that I need. Now I just have to decide where to put it all. Like you, I never have enough cabinet space. Your post gave me an inspiration- I'm going to take the cupboard that I have pasta, rice, barley, etc. in and move it all to the pantry in the basement. That way I'll have the intire cabinet for protein powder, jello, applesauce, cream soups, pudding, etc.
I have all of my meds. and vitamins in a 7-day pillbox organizer already and will work on the bills today.
Do you have your comfy sweats and loose clothes ready to go?
Good Luck with your surgery! I go on the same day as you do!
CAN'T WAIT!!!

Thanks, Jasmine!
Sounds like we all have some less-than-supportive "friends". At least we all have each other!
I can't wait to be able to sit comfortably in a booth again, by the way!
Good Luck to you!

I've been hearing that "easy way out" stuff, also. I'm not going to try to convince any of them of what we have to go through. The end results will speak for themselves. I am going to succeed at this, and who cares if the rest of them remain fat and miserable?
Topic: RE: Jealous Co-workers
Thanks, Emily! I needed the encouragement. You're right, she's the one who will end up being left in the dust, and she will still be fat and miserable. I'm doing what I need to do for me. Who cares if it bothers others!

Michele,
Thanks for sharing this. I guess it's pretty common. After all, no one wants to be the only fat one left in the office, right? I'm sure that I would be jealous if it were the other way around, but like I said, I pray that I would be able to be pleasant and supportive of someone else who was about to have life-changing surgery.
I agree with you about not talking too much about the surgery at work. I plan on keeping a low profile as far as that goes, too. Whatever they say behind my back is OK- it probably is just jealousy.
