I think your response to UH OH just showed how compassionate and caring you are.

Topic: whatcha eating?

both for pre- and post ops:  thought it would be helpful to share what it is that we're all eating - both what and how much!

Here's mine (5 days post-op):

Breakfast:  decaf coffee (large cup) with 1/4 packet fat free dried milk (8g protein)
morning snack:  nectar sample pack cappuccino protein drink w/1/2 cup skim milk & 1/4 pkg fat free dried milk (22g protein)
Lunch:  broth from garden vegetable soup - maybe 1 graham protein
afternoon snack:  sf/ff butterscotch pudding made with ff milk and extra dried ff milk 8g protein (ate this throughout the day with majority as afternoon snack) - 8g protein
Dinner - probably mashed potatoe flakes w/1 cup milk & 1/4 pkg dried milk - 16g protein

Hey everyone it's Lauren.. Just letting you know that I am still in the hospital on Day 2. I had a slight problem My small Intestines was TOO SMALL so they had to put a big tube hanging out of the intestines. Everything else went according to plan. I am in alot of pain but I think that's just from the tube. I Will have to get back on and tell my WHOLE story lol.. "Lauren"

Hey Girl~

Best wishes for a smooth procedure.  You will do fabulous!  I was scheduled to have surgery at 2:30 but ended up getting in at a little after 12.  So hang in there, you may get pushed up.  (I will keep my fingers crossed for that!)

I am 12 days out and am getting the hang of everything and I am even going back to work on Monday.

I got myself new slippers for the hospital too and only wore them before surgery in the "bull pen" (waiting/holding) area.  I wore the grippy socks they gave me the entire time.  They were easier to walk in.

All I can say is sip sip sip and walk as much as you can.

Good Luck, see you on the losers bench!

Hugs,

Pam

You are going to do fine, the adjustment is easier than you think. Just make sure you measure, especially in the beginning because you don't really get hungry/full cues from your belly. Then you start to get a feel for it, once you recognize where your pouch is! Then you know, "Oh, that means full!" My "old" stomache growled alot the first week. My theory is that it does that as it shrinks up. I kept thinking I was hungry until I remebered that no food goes into there anymore! So after that first week that "hungry stomache" thing went away and I was able to concentrate on nutrition and stuff. I got a bit of advice for you too: make your protein shake the night before and let it set in the fridge. That way all of those air bubbles will settle out and it will be less foamy. It is more like chocolate milk that way. I would have half in the AM and half in the PM. Also, when you get to puree, the Campbell's Select Harvest soup, the Maryland crab, pureed is awesome! It's like a bisque. If you don't have one, get one of those hand held emmersion blenders. I use mine all the time. But they work really well for puree. I added beans to anything I would puree as well, to get in extra protein. Ok, that's enough!

You are amazing!

My day is the 26th as well and I can't wait. I went to the support group on Thursday night and I am so excited. I was nervous after speaking with my supervisor on Monday and she literally interrogated me (as is we hadn't already discussed it). But I'm SOOOOOOO much better now.

I can do all things!

Topic: Finally feeling better
Hello Everyone!!

Well i had surgery on Monday and all went well except the surgeon found a hernia and had to remove it!! Oh man what a shocker!! I felt so horrible after surgery not pain wise but it just felt like i couldn't breathe!! I kept thinking i was going to stop breathing and i kept calling the nurses and they kept trying to calm me down, I was having an anxiety attack and they had to give me lorazepam!! I was walking just a few hours after surgery, no problems there. I had to stay an extra day in the hospital so I came home on Wednesday morning...

I have had no vomiting but i feel weird because i don't know if I'm drinking enough fluids or what, last night it felt like i was so full but i know i hadn't drank anything in hours, i felt really bloated too!! I don't have to take any vitamins for another week or so as directed by the doctor, my follow up appointment is Monday  so i hope everyone who has had surgery is doing well and please take care!!!
