It is exciting isn't it!  I also waited since last May for surgery, so the anticipation had kind of died down but I was really glad when it finally came.  Take care and best wishes for your recovery.

Hi Foxywii:
That is quite an experience.   I was banded on Tuesday 1/6.  You are showing a really good attitude about this complication.  I hope you were doing this under insurance.  I was self-pay.  The first 3 days are the hardest, and it gets much better after that.  Moving around has gotten easier, and the main issue for me now is distention and bloating from the gas they put in my abdomen during surgery.  Did they do new additional incisions?  Wishing you the best...

Welcome back. Defintely take the time to rest, which is what I am doing now. Just follow doctor's orders and eventually everyting will fall into place. Can't wait to see some weight come off.

I wasn't planning on staying overnight, but it turned out I had to. Brush/comb is one thing I really missed. Your own robe and socks are great as well. You can bring a book if you want, but you will most likely out of it you won't feel like doing anything but resting. Good Luck to you guys.

Topic: In Recovery
Hey everyone. Just wanted to let you know I am safetly home and recovering. I had a lap band put in on Friday morning (7:30 am). Did the leak test in radiology, and just about the time they were going to discharge me my doctor came in and told me the tests showed a leak. He would have to go back in and see how bad it was and possibly have to take the band off. So I went into surgery for a 2nd time on Friday. That time they put a scope down my throat, brough radiology to me and discovered there was no leak, but my stomach had rotated or flipped.  My doctor said he has never had this happened to him. In the second surgery they took the band off, but since there was no leak they also put it back on. He kept me overnight for observations and released me midday yesterday. Don't want to scare anyone who still is planning on surgery, but complications can happen and luckily mine was able to be fixed. So now i am recovering at my parents and still really sore. Good luck to everyone, just wanted to share my story. My doctor and the staff at the hospital were great and took wonderful care of me while I was there.

Hello Deborah.  I am having my gastric bypass tomorrow.  It's all I've been thinking about since I got my surgery date.  I didn't care about Christmas or my birthday.  I haven't gotten scared yet, just so excited!  Good luck.

Hi Maggie,
I am very excited for you.  It's amazing when we have a chance to take control of our weight problem not just for a month or two, but for as long as necessary.

When I went to the information seminar, I was set on the gastric band.  I soon discovered two other options, the gastric sleeve and RNY.  The sleeve keeps both valves entering and leaving the stomach.  The stomach is reduced around 85 percent, to almost a tube of sorts.  The stomach cut away is removed from the body.  This is more of a reduction/ restrictive surgery than the restrictive/malabsorptive surgery.  It is equated closely to weightloss of the RNY and only a small percentage of people have "dumping" syndrome.  I never knew it existed until the seminar to be honest with you.

I start my 2 week low carb slimfast drink diet on the 13th.  Only two more days of "real" food.  When I think about it my brain knows it is about time.  There is a twinge of "I'll miss that" in me as well, but I know it will be a fleeting thought after the surgery.  Until then, my stomach will be pissed :)
