Topic: RE: Afraid of missing Food?
Not a crazy question at all.  I myself have been searching for a plan on how I will deal with cravings for favorite foods post-op.  I have my next appointment before surgery on January 16, to discuss with the dietician what I can eat the week before surgery and the day before/post-op.  I don't plan on having what you referred to as a "Last meal"  to me that sounds a bit morbid.

My surgery is scheduled for January 27.  I wish you good luck and a speedy recovery!  It's our time to shine in '09!!

Are you KIDDING?  Yes - missing food!!!  Yes - afraid of missing food!!!

I can easily go on a mental binge right now... the favorite carbs of my choice are coming to mind even now as we speak... visions of sugarplums dance in my head.

Yep - despite what I consider to be my uncontrollable cravings, I didn't pig out preop, nor after preop, although I cheated just a small bit the first few days of preop liquids.

But now every time I see food it S M E L L S   SO  G O O D...

I was on clear liquids a week preop and still thin liquids/shakes postop for 3 weeks also.

Thanks for the posting, Candie!  I'm looking for all the info I can at this point.

I have my pre-op meeting this Wed.

We'll definitely keep in touch.

I agree this has really been a head thing.  But if there is one thing I know I deserve as well it is not to be fat.

Thanks, too for the strong words of encouragement to stick to the diet.  I , too was at my breaking point, and am stronger because of what you said.

Hugs,

Deb

Topic: Afraid of missing Food?

Just a crazy question.  Are any of you afraid of missing food?  I've read other posts about this.  I know how I can be when my blood sugar drops and the first thing I want of course is a CARB!  After surgery, that's not going to happen.  I start my low carb atkins diet this Wednesday for 2 weeks.  I know I'm lucky not to be on the liquid diet, but for the next few days I'm thinking of what would be good to eat before the low carb diet starts.  Does that not make me ready for surgery or did you do this too?  Did you have a last meal and if so what was it?  How do you feel about this?

Thnks for the info.

Deborah

Candie,

From experience I can now say, walk, walk, walk.  I found out that after I walked, I burped.  The nurses kept asking me if I (excuse the expression farted) and I didn't until last evening and I must say, I was elated, because I am ridding the gas at both ends now.  Not fun but it's nice to know the plumbing is working right?

I didn't get bothered by the gas too bad other than my tummy was pretty bloated.  It gets better every day.
