Topic: This one's for the girls
Hey everyone... I am back home. I had the surgery Monday and I did great. My liver looked great and they were able to do it lapro. The only problem was my surgeon had to spend the first half hour cutting through old scar tissue from a previous surgery.
Okay... for you girls who have your surgery coming up... this is something that i ahve seen on other boards, but not on ours, plus, it happened to me.
The anesthesia and trauma to your body can send your hormones into overdrive. I started my period 2 weeks early... the day AFTER surgery. Yeah, that's just whatcha need!
So, if you are still menstruating, make sure you pack a few pads with you. It might not happen to you, but it did to me. The only good thing was I really didn't have cramps because of the toradol!!

Topic: RE: Home at last, but I am SO tired.
my surgery was on 1-5 and I was tired almost all of the first week afterward taking a nap in the afternoon for a hour or two. I was still taking the pain meds at night and after I stopped taking any pain meds I haven't needed that afternoon nap to make it through the day. Are you still taking any pain meds? Anyway my advice is to let your body heal in its own time--you will probably have lots of energy in another week! I have been taking chewable children's complete vitamins from day 1 after surgery--it is weird how much some of the docs differ on some things.
Good luck!
Amy

Topic: jan 5 surgery comrades
Just wanted to check in and see how everyone else who had surgery on jan 5th-the same day as me are doing.....
I am getting more than a little tired of the liquid diet thing and thank god I didn't have to do it more than a day before surgery. Anyway I am on full liquids until Jan 19th than I can start pureed foods. How is everyone feeling? I have been a little tired but otherwise doing good. I tried some sugar free yogurt the other day and took one bite and it was so sweet--I didn't even want to try and eat it! Anyone else notice that about sugar free stuff after rny? I guess the sugar substitute is even sweet to me--I have had to dilute things down. I guess that is a good thing since sweets were my biggest weight issue! I don't know if I should ask how much weight we are all down or not--I don't want anyone to get depressed or anything about it. I guess if any one is curious how much I am down say so below and I will give my number so far. I have to confess I haven't done much for exercise yet, except walking around the house and laundry and dishes for 5 people. Our weather has not been working in my favor to get to the gym. Anyone else off to a sluggish start with the exercise or am I just being lazy and making excuses? Well, I will wait to see how you all are doing.

Topic: RE: Pre op went well!
I wish Tuesday would get here more quickly, so I understand how you feel. My pre-op was Wed and I lost 7 lbs, too. I was pretty happy about that. Try not to beat yourself up about it.
Disney must have been fun! Congrats on your pre-op and best wishes on a successful surgery and a speedy, speedy recovery.

Topic: RE: G Tube?
I am sorry you have that to deal with! Surgery on the 9th and you are home with G-tube? Where is it?
My Dr. doesn't do any drain after surgery. I even had catheter removed the morning after surgery. If you did not have the tube you would probably feel like a million bucks! I had surgery Monday, came home Wednesday and today feel that I could leave the house and be comfortable(probably not in jeans though).
Do you still drink your 4 oz every hour with G-tube? What do you have to do with it?
Can't they take it out early for you?
Keep your chin up!

Topic: RE: I'm going home tomorrow!
Erin,
Glad to hear you are doing well! I did drink from medicine cups in the hospital but at home I actually have a kids cup from the Red Robin Resaurant that has ounces measured on it. I have been using that. I just keep filling 4 ouces for every hour.
I was lucky to not have a drain. My Dr. doesn't always put one in. And the catheter was taken out morning after surgery. They just measured urine output after.
Today I actually feel good enough to leave the house if I could. It is freezing so I think I will just stay in and read, watch TV, and keep checking the computer.
Once you get home you will feel better. It is always more comfortable at home!
Well, keep it up and post later!
Don't forget to rest too!
