First Post-Op visit

I had my first post-op visit on 1/20 - 2 wks. after surgery. I have lost 19.5 lbs!!! I hadn't been near the scale since surgery, so I was extremely excited and surprised!! Everything is going fine. My incision is healed, I am getting in all of my fluids, vitamins, and 70-90 gms/protein daily (still needing shakes and unjury to boost it, of course). I am now on soft foods and it is going well. I had a little problem after eating fish the other night, I think it was due to eating too fast. There is a steep learning curve to this new lifestyle! Despite the problems and complications in the hospital, and needing to come home with oxygen (which has now been discontinued, of course), I have no regrets so far.

So, how is everyone else doing?

That is awesome that you're doing so well! Thanks for sharing your progress. I have 4 days to go and it really helps to hear how others are making out post-op. Now make sure you update your ticker and brag about that 19.5 lbs you've lost!!

Brandi,
I'm working on the ticker- it's been so long since I put it up there that I'm going to have to play around with it to get it updated! My mom hid my scale when she brought me home, so I'll only be weighing myself once/week.

So, are you getting excited? I'm sure that you're nervous- that's normal! I was a wreck, but it all seems worth it already! I'll be thinking about you! Good Luck!

That is so awesome!!  I think you are doing wonderfully.  Keep up the good work.  I still have pain near my belly button on my left side.  It hurts to sit or bend down.  If it weren't for that, I would be right back in the swing of things.  I have lost 25lbs. But this week I don't think I've lost anything.  I think I have to boost my protein.  I only get in about two TBSP. at each meal.

You must have had yours laparascopically?  I had open, which is all my surgeon does. The incision is healed, but the drain site still hurts sometimes when I bend a certain way. I'm using the protein shakes to boost the protein between "meals". I can eat a little less than 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, soup, or refried beans; I ate a whole scrambled egg the other day, and that went OK. I'm still on puree/soft foods. What stage are you at? Congrats. on your 25 lb. loss! How are your clothes fitting?

You're doing fantastic, I am so happy for you.  I am doing really great.  I am working on getting all my fluids in, vitamins are easy breezy and I am working on boosting the protein up.  I ordered some Ungery samples today to see how that works.

I just started the pureed soft foods, and I am learning all over again.  I did really good with the thicker liquids, so I just need to take this new stage slow.

Not a single regret either.  So happy you're doing well.

Barb,
This really hasn't been so bad, has it? I read so many horror stories that I just didn't know what to expect, and I am so happy at how this is turning out. I bought some unflavored Unjury to add to soups, applesauce, pudding, etc. but haven/t tried it yet- I'm kind of funny about the textures of foods... I don't mind boosting with the protein shakes for now.
Keep up the good work!

No, it really hasn't been bad.  I just ordered the unflavored Unjury yesterday to boost my protein but I have the same thoughts you have, I too am sort of funny about textures too. Let me know what you think and I will do the same.

Please keep in touch.
