not losing on liquid diet....HELP!

I posted this in a reply but really need some advice.  I know I shouldn't compare myself to others but all I keep reading is people losing 10, even 16 (you suck, Ashlie!!!!) lbs in a week!  I've lost 3....ugh!  I'm really discouraged.

I'm day 7 on the liquid diet and really thought the weight would come off faster but I think I've only lost maybe 3 lbs!!  The first 2 days I had a HORRIBLE headache, I thought maybe I was just in shock to not be eating real food but I wanted to be 100% sure I was doing it right so I got out all the labels and did the math and found out I was only getting:

720 calories (should be 1300)
34g carbs (less than 100g)
80g protein (between 90-120g)

No wonder I had a headache!  I was barely sustaining myself.  So I made some adjustments (added soup for dinner).  I can't find a post that talks much about what people are eating (drinking) for the 2 week diet so I'm hoping someone will see this and tell me if I'm missing something.  I know my pre-op diet is to shrink the liver and not necessarily lose weight but I was under the impression that people drop it like crazy...I worry that my 2 days of nearly starving myself at 720 calories put the kabosh on losing.

protein shake for breakfast, lunch and dinner (all 20g protein each)
chicken bouillion (15g protein) for lunch with SF jello
drink mix in (16g protein) with some carrots (I'm allowed any non-starchy raw or cooked veggies, parkay no fat spray if steamed/sauteed)
steamed mushrooms
98% fat free cream of (chicken/mushroom/broccoli) soup (added this for calorie sake)
celery with 2tbsp peanut butter to get me in the protein range

I feel like I'm following to a T and am now hitting the ranges but the weight loss isn't there....

Ideas?

Take a deep breath, you have to keep in mind, your body is going through SHOCK!!!!
So now instead of taking in all the calories and other things that your body was used to, it is now starting to hang on to anything it can get. I didn't think I had lost anything on my 10 days of no carbs, all liquid dite, until the day of my surgery. I lost 22 pounds and was amazed. So just give it time, right now your body things its starving and trying to hang on to anything it can. You will be surprised when you step on that scale on surgery day..
Keep your chin up, things will get moving. The first week was the hardest for me as well as most people starting this diet. Just keep the reward in mind of the healthy life you will have after surgery.
Good luck,
Annmarie

the cream soup is straight from the doctors list!!  I don't have a lot to choose from and was missing 600 calories so I filled most of it up with this...

Thank you for both replies - I'm hoping this next few days I'll see it drop off because I really do think my body thinks I'm trying to kill it!!

Sounds like your working hard at it. don't focus on the weight loss that will come. If you get that fatty liver out of the way you will have done your part. Make sure your drinking lots and lots of water to flush everything through I know its hard because your on so many liquids and not very thiristy but this is the trick. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amanda,

Keep doing what your doctor wants you to do and you will be A-OK.  Keep you're eye on the prize ahead (your surgery date) and the weight will come off as it is supposed to.  Every surgeon has their own idea about pre-op diet.  Mine was a week of 3 slim fasts a day and clear broth soup and that was all.  Was I hungry.... yep, but I drank water until I felt like I was going to float away and that helped curb the hunger.  The other thing about the pre-op diet is not only does it shrink the liver, it helps to reframe your head for the post op liquid diet.  I am day 10 post op and still on liqruids and thicker soups.  I am not hungry at all, in fact I watch the clock to remind me to "eat".  You will get through this and do very well, I am most sure.  I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Best of luck to you on your upcoming surgery.

Hugs,
Barb

I too am on the liquid diet and, the only way that I have been able to see the difference is that I measured my self ( waist, thigh , etc ) B/c I knew I would discourage myself by getting on the scale. I use fitday.com to track my food in-take and my progress. It is really helpful and has kept me motivated so far. Just remember everyone is different. So people retain much more fluid than others, so they have fluid to lose to . Your progress is the only one you can control. My husband tells me everyday how amazed he is with my willpower on the liquid diet. But it really does suck!

Yeah, I wish I had measured myself prior to the liquid diet, the plan was to do it the night before surgery.  I know I'm doing the best thing for my liver but I guess my expectations were out of whack.  Hopefully this week is better.  My surgery is exactly one week from today!!  WOOT!!!

Thanks again for everyone taking the time to read and respond to this.  The support here is just awesome.

Have a great day!!

p.s. We might get snow tonight....in Charlotte, NC!!!  Very strange....

good luck with the next week but, like everyone said: as long as you are doing what your doctor says you will be fine... keep up the good work and I didnt mean to offend you about the cream soup... that is just something my nutritionist said and I thought you were looking for ideas....
I have lost about 19 lbs and I have been on the diet 9 days. My doctor ordered sugarfree jello, crystal light, broth and sugarfree popsicles. I was also permitted lean chicken breast (but didnt eat that much) and protein shakes...It worked PERFECTLY for me! My surgery is tomorrow and I just wanna lose ONE more pound before I go in!

you didn't offend me at all! My comment was pure exasperation at following exactly what they said and still not losing!  I'm sorry I gave you that impression!  I do appreciate your response and think it's awesome that you've lost 19lbs!!  I will be thinking about you tomorrow and during your recovery.  Best of luck to you!!
