not losing on liquid diet....HELP!
I'm day 7 on the liquid diet and really thought the weight would come off faster but I think I've only lost maybe 3 lbs!! The first 2 days I had a HORRIBLE headache, I thought maybe I was just in shock to not be eating real food but I wanted to be 100% sure I was doing it right so I got out all the labels and did the math and found out I was only getting:
720 calories (should be 1300)
34g carbs (less than 100g)
80g protein (between 90-120g)
No wonder I had a headache! I was barely sustaining myself. So I made some adjustments (added soup for dinner). I can't find a post that talks much about what people are eating (drinking) for the 2 week diet so I'm hoping someone will see this and tell me if I'm missing something. I know my pre-op diet is to shrink the liver and not necessarily lose weight but I was under the impression that people drop it like crazy...I worry that my 2 days of nearly starving myself at 720 calories put the kabosh on losing.
protein shake for breakfast, lunch and dinner (all 20g protein each)
chicken bouillion (15g protein) for lunch with SF jello
drink mix in (16g protein) with some carrots (I'm allowed any non-starchy raw or cooked veggies, parkay no fat spray if steamed/sauteed)
steamed mushrooms
98% fat free cream of (chicken/mushroom/broccoli) soup (added this for calorie sake)
celery with 2tbsp peanut butter to get me in the protein range
I feel like I'm following to a T and am now hitting the ranges but the weight loss isn't there....
Ideas?
So now instead of taking in all the calories and other things that your body was used to, it is now starting to hang on to anything it can get. I didn't think I had lost anything on my 10 days of no carbs, all liquid dite, until the day of my surgery. I lost 22 pounds and was amazed. So just give it time, right now your body things its starving and trying to hang on to anything it can. You will be surprised when you step on that scale on surgery day..
Keep your chin up, things will get moving. The first week was the hardest for me as well as most people starting this diet. Just keep the reward in mind of the healthy life you will have after surgery.
Good luck,
Annmarie
Amanda,
Keep doing what your doctor wants you to do and you will be A-OK. Keep you're eye on the prize ahead (your surgery date) and the weight will come off as it is supposed to. Every surgeon has their own idea about pre-op diet. Mine was a week of 3 slim fasts a day and clear broth soup and that was all. Was I hungry.... yep, but I drank water until I felt like I was going to float away and that helped curb the hunger. The other thing about the pre-op diet is not only does it shrink the liver, it helps to reframe your head for the post op liquid diet. I am day 10 post op and still on liqruids and thicker soups. I am not hungry at all, in fact I watch the clock to remind me to "eat". You will get through this and do very well, I am most sure. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Best of luck to you on your upcoming surgery.
Hugs,
Barb
Thanks again for everyone taking the time to read and respond to this. The support here is just awesome.
Have a great day!!
p.s. We might get snow tonight....in Charlotte, NC!!! Very strange....
I have lost about 19 lbs and I have been on the diet 9 days. My doctor ordered sugarfree jello, crystal light, broth and sugarfree popsicles. I was also permitted lean chicken breast (but didnt eat that much) and protein shakes...It worked PERFECTLY for me! My surgery is tomorrow and I just wanna lose ONE more pound before I go in!
