Less than 3 days till WLS day!!!
Wow - I can't believe how fast time flies...my surgery is on Tuesday!!!
I'm still excited, nervous, anxious...all of the above!
I'm having open RNY and unlike a lot of you my surgeon didn't put me on a liquid diet at all before surgery. I just have to eat a light breakfast, lunch and a very light dinner and not have anything to drink at all after midnight before surgery.
I haven't really had any 'last meals' since Xmas and haven't had any soda or alcohol since then either. Haven't gained anything but haven't lost any weight either. Just glad I haven't gained a pound!
I think the biggest challenge for me will be adjusting to life after surgery. I live alone with my cat and have been used to eating my meals in front of the tv. When that happens you don't feel full right away...you just keep eating. I know I won't be watching the food network anymore - ha ha! HGTV is plenty safe though....
I've pretty much done all my shopping...stocked up on vitamins, unjury, sf jello & pudding, low fat cottage cheese, etc. I also got a new pair of slippers to wear at the hosipital...they don't match my 3x size robe but I'm sure I'll give that robe to my sister or someone else I know in the near future as it will be too big for me.
Anyone else having their surgery next week and have any thoughts or words of encouragement to share?
I wish y'all the best!

Hey girlfriend.. I am right there with you Tuesday is the big day. I have been on the liquid diet and last night was tough and today i have a headache.. unlike most people who get the headache the first two days i got it now.. i think its a combo of stress, not sleeping and just wanting tuesday to get here. I feel like sleeping thru this whole weekend just so i don't think about food.
I also have stocked up on stuff vitamins, food, broth etc.. and I am missing the food channel.. don't worry from what i hear we will be able to watch it again and best thing is we wont be hungry!!! It kills me having to cook for my husband but I usually am having my protein drink while I cook.
All will end soon.. I just want it to get here already
You will be in my thoughts and prayers and please keep me posted when you get home.. i will do the same.. hell is it freezing in buffalo?? its snowing in Queens!!
talk soon
Yoly

Hiya Yoly!
It is 22 degrees but feels like 9 degrees in Buffalo according to weather.com. We have a 6-inch lake effect warning from 1pm-6am tomorrow morning. Not that I care because I'm staying home today cleaning and doing laundry like a mad woman! My mother is coming to stay with me starting tomorrow.
What time is your surgery on Tues? Mine is at 12:30pm but will know for sure when the hospital calls me on Monday confirming when I need to be at the hospital. I'd rather my surgery be earlier in the morning because not being able to even have water after midnight before will be torture! I normally have a water bottle next my bed at night.
Have you tried taking tylenol for your headaches? I know we can't take anything else like mortin, alieve, advil, etc so I just have tylenol at my place now. I hope your head feels better soon!
I'll be thinking of you too and will try to post as soon as I feel able after I get home sometime on Friday.
Cheers!

You are going to do fine, the adjustment is easier than you think. Just make sure you measure, especially in the beginning because you don't really get hungry/full cues from your belly. Then you start to get a feel for it, once you recognize where your pouch is! Then you know, "Oh, that means full!" My "old" stomache growled alot the first week. My theory is that it does that as it shrinks up. I kept thinking I was hungry until I remebered that no food goes into there anymore! So after that first week that "hungry stomache" thing went away and I was able to concentrate on nutrition and stuff. I got a bit of advice for you too: make your protein shake the night before and let it set in the fridge. That way all of those air bubbles will settle out and it will be less foamy. It is more like chocolate milk that way. I would have half in the AM and half in the PM. Also, when you get to puree, the Campbell's Select Harvest soup, the Maryland crab, pureed is awesome! It's like a bisque. If you don't have one, get one of those hand held emmersion blenders. I use mine all the time. But they work really well for puree. I added beans to anything I would puree as well, to get in extra protein. Ok, that's enough!
Hey Girl~
Best wishes for a smooth procedure. You will do fabulous! I was scheduled to have surgery at 2:30 but ended up getting in at a little after 12. So hang in there, you may get pushed up. (I will keep my fingers crossed for that!)
I am 12 days out and am getting the hang of everything and I am even going back to work on Monday.
I got myself new slippers for the hospital too and only wore them before surgery in the "bull pen" (waiting/holding) area. I wore the grippy socks they gave me the entire time. They were easier to walk in.
All I can say is sip sip sip and walk as much as you can.
Good Luck, see you on the losers bench!
Hugs,
Pam

Congradulations! Surgery is Wednesday the 14th! I feel the same way as you excited, nervous, anxious! As this is the second time around for me due to medical reasons.. kinda sucks.. but hey, it is all good! I have to be on a liquid diet the day before is all that is a breeze... I am having an lap. RNY revision. I am a little on the scared side though. They tell me complactions are greater this time around. But I have great support so it will be good! Best of luck to you on Tuesday! Let the loosing begin!
