Liz,

You can do this, just keep your eye on the prize and remember it won't last forever.  What kind of shakes are your drinking?  When is your surgery?  Can you supplement with broth or tea or sf sodas or SF jello?  I am here to support you as I am on all liquid until my surgery next Thurs.  We can do this together.... I promise.

Liz,

How about sugar free jello?  It's slightly chewy and it helps.   The other thing, you might be able to freeze your shake and make it like an ice cream or frozen goodie.  Just a thought.   Hang in there, I'm here for your venting pleasure  we'll get through this!

I feel for ya! I am on the Medifast shakes for 2 weeks! YUCK! I am not supposed to eat anything else. I can have water, tea or coffee. No milk or cream! YEAH RIGHT! I haven't been able to get 5 in a day as I am supposed to. 4 has been the limit. I am starting to mix 2 at a time to make it easier. I have to say that I am not really hungry just miss food. I am craving cheese pizza right now and a diet pepsi! Today is my 5th day and I had a grilled snack wrap for lunch. I felt bad after but back to the shakes for me!
At least after surgery you can have different things. I am looking forward to broth, cream soups, SF jello etc!
Stick with it you can do it!

I made stuff to eat with my shakes.  The best one was pancakes:
2 - 18oz packs of vanilla shake mix; 2 egg whites; 1 tbsp vanilla sugar-free pudding; 1 tsp maple and 1 tsp vanilla flavoring; 3/4 tsp imitation butter flavoring; 1 tsp cinnamon; and 4 oz water (or just enough to make batter).  Mix all ingredients into batter and cook on griddle.  Delish!  I used DiVinci sugar free syrup on top.

But I'd experiment.  I've made apple cinnamon cookies; brownies; pumpkin pie...anything using those shakes as a base.  Also many places now have a high protein oatmeal included in their product line that can count as a shake.  For me it was all about a variety.

Good luck and if I can be of further help, just let me know.

My surgery is Tuesday the 6th so I know what you've just been through and it does get better

OK, sounds good and all but my Medifast diet is to lose weight and shrink the liver before surgery not just a protein shake to get protein in. The ideas I will keep in mind for post surgery protein recipes. I have to follow 5 shakes a day for 2 weeks to lose a certain percentage of weight before surgery. Believe me if that was not the case I would use it in brownies too! YUM!

I've absolutely lost weight on the recipies.  I am doing the HRM program of liquid diets and am down about 18 pounds in 2 weeks.  Each program probably has varying ideas...our nutritionist gave out a recipe book and some I've improvised myself in order to help us make the most of our shakes and ensure that we all stay on board, even when those nasty craving****!

WOW! That sounds delicious! When I was given my shakes to lose weight she said I couldn't have anything else. Jus****er, tea and coffee along with 5 shakes a day. Your ideas sound so yummy! What is the HRM program? Also do you have a blog site with your yummy recipes on there? If not you should. I love to collect recipe ideas. I have been doing that in prep for post op. I would love copies of some of yours.. I am a sweet tooth. I love cookies brownies etc. So any way I can still have them and have them be good for me I am all for it!
Thanks for your ideas,
Lisa

I know exactly how you feel!  I was on a semi-liquid diet for 5 weeks to lose the last few pounds, then was on all liquids for 4 days before and two weeks after the surgery.  It sucks - no way around it; you just have to remind yourself that it is short-term.  Keep your eye on the goal!

Also, experiment... I did silly stuff like mix veggie and chicken broth together so it would taste "different"  also, sugar free popsicles are refreshing and yummy!!  On the protein shakes, experiment with some of the DaVinci SF syrups to make it taste different.

Good luck!!
