8 days to go, I am getting excited and nervous all at once
Well, its almost here..JAN 7.. I am getting excited and nervous all at the same time. I was not given any special diet except for the day before and just wondering should I or shouldn't I, I was doing slim fast but it seems to be bothering my stomach.. I was told that I have a fatty liver and I am just praying that my surgery doesn't have to go to an open procedure due to my liver. I guess everything is going thru my head. My job is giving me grief about being out, they want me back in 10 days. I really need to just chill, but can't seem to do it. I am trying to do all the fun stuff right now with my kids because I guess afterwards I might not feel that great for a few weeks(maybe). I am trying to figure out what to bring with me to the hospital. We live about 1 1/2 hrs from the hospital so I have told my husband to be there the day of surgery and then just to come to pick me up. So I want to make sure I have what I need while I am there. I guess I am just rambling on...I just can't believe my surgery is so close. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated
thank you. I think I will feel much better once it's here. I was just talking to the surgeon's nurse and she suggested a liquid diet for 2 days before. I think I have a little guilt since I have not told my brother that I am doing this and I haven't told my sister or too many friends. I think because I expect them all to be negative about doing it, they are all thin and just say oh..you want to get the weight off, just diet and stick to it. As you all know its just not that easy. Anyway, thanks for the support. I will keep you updated

cindy......girl.......i have a fatty liver too!!!!! if i were you, and this is only a suggestion.......my dr has me on 2 protein shakes a day and one low carb, low fat meal. don't take ANY Advil or anything like that, don't drink any alcohol (not sure if you do to start with) not sure if you take any medication for diabetes or not but my PC dr changed my medication due to the fact that the one i was on effected my liver. all this plays a part in shrinking your liver. im very surprised your dr didn't suggest this to you before now since you do have a fatty liver. like i said this is just a suggestion, id hate for you to go thru all this only to have them say oops sorry your liver was too large we couldn't do the band. dr jawad told me that he had done this in the past. i know every dr is different but...................... please if someone else is reading this and disagrees with me or has something else to add thats different please please let us know. anyway cindy, we are here for you. what would we do without our OH family???? id be crazy right now.....well crazier
I am thinking that I need to do something, but I am wondering if they didn't suggest anything because I am having lap RNY ?? I have been doing the slim fast thing, but it seems to bother my stomach, but it does work. But it just seems that everyone I hear about is doing some type of liquid diet. Are you already? It seems like time is just getting closer and closer. I can't wait for it to be here. I just keep reading all the information the doctor gave me, making sure I understand whats going on and what i need to do after. I went out and got my flintstones vitamins, B12 sublingual, Biotin, Zinc, Vit C and Calcium Citrate chewables, along with the Carnation Instant Breakfast sugar free(really hard to find), a bunch of broth, and I finally found the Containers of Ocean Spray Sugar Free drink mix in Cranberry Apple and a few others in walmart. As far as current meds I am really not on anything, I have been able to control my Pre-Diabeties with diet and exercise and even my lipids I keep down as best as I can. Hopefully once I have surgery all of this will remain down. I think I have finally decided that people do not need to know what I am doing, its my business and I really need to take an inventory of my life. My husband and I are now living in the Adirondack mountains with all the cold and snow, we moved here after living in Florida (we moved back because of the schools in Florida - we had decided we didnt want our daughter of 8 weeks at that time to do to Florida schools) and way, I want to return to the the sunshine state badly, so that could also be in my near future. We lived in Wellington, west of west palm beach. If I had my way we will be back down there by the late spring time, just in time for hurricane season. Anyway, good luck and I hope to hear from you soon with great results.
Cindy, don't feel guilty about not telling people. I haven't told many people either. I don't want to hear all the negative. Now, after I have surgery and start losing I suspect people will ask questions and I may tell them at that time and then I may not. Just depends on who it is and how they asked. It is your decision and your choice.

Cindy, my surgeon requires a 10 day clear liquid diet before surgery. It is to help shrink the liver so that the surgery is easier on you and the doctor. On the clear liquid diet you can have sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, broth, liquid off of ramen noodles or chicken noodles, crystal light, and what ever else that you can see through. It would probably be a good idea to do it even though your surgeon doesn't require it. Right now I am on a low carb diet. I am doing this because I gained some weight and I have to lose it fast. I will do my liquid diet once I get my date. I am so excited for you your surgery is the day after my pre op appointment. Keep us updated.
