Welcome to the board!
pre-op high protein liquid diet
This means that everything that you eat or drink must be clear. ( you can basically see through it when held up to the light) and of liquid consistency( thin enough that you could drink it through a straw). You will also be able to have protein supplement rinks 4-6 times a day.
Following this diet will stimulate weight loss, decreasing the amount of fat in your abdomen and on your liver. This will make laparoscopic weight loss surgery easier and safer for you and your surgeon to perform.
GOALS
* drink 4-6 protein drinks per day
*consume other "clear" liquids
*carbonated beverages and caffeine are NOT allowed
*limit fruit juices to 3-4 cups daily
*total fluid intake should be 64 oz a day (or more )
"CLEAR" LIQUIDS
*100% apple,grape or cranberry juice
*broth(beef,chicken,or vegetable)
*sugar-free jell-o
*sugar free Popsicles or juice bars
*crystal light
*decaf coffee or tea, sugar substitute may be added
*non-carbonated, sugar-free flavored waters
*propel sport drink
*water or ice chips
MINIMIZING HUNGER
*Follow a structured meal schedule, where a protein supplement drink is consumed every 3-4 hours
*Have an extra protein supplement drink if feelings of hunger become unmanageable during a particular time of day
*increase your intake of calorie-free fluids to help generate a feeling of fullness
mixing your protein supplement drink with ice in a blender to create a slushy drink can be helpful
*track all food and fluid intake daily yo help you focus on following your plan
in addition to all the things you can have on clear liquids i can also have cream of wheat or grits, applesauce (no sugar added) low fat yougurt, creamed soups, carnation instant breakfast other protein drinks, pureed cottage cheese, 100%fruit juices, milk, water... i tried it out for four days and i lost 8 pounds :) i kinda went off but will be back on officially tomorrow
hope that also helps if you get too tired of clear
