Hey All,

I am happy to share that I am having my surgery on the 6th of January..  WOW

It seems to have happened so fast...  I look back now and think, where did the time go..

I have already done my pre-op apt with my Dr. I have a phone apt with the Anesthesiologist on Monday, then after that, I will be in surgery..

I am having my surgery at CHOMP (Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula) here in Monterey..

For those of you who don't know me, I am also having a Liver Biopsy at the same time, as my Dr. thinks that I may have cirrhosis of the liver..   WOW.. So for me, this surgery could very well end up saving me from a liver transplant, and even save my life..

I have 5 kids who depend on me (3 who have already lost their Biological Mother) so they help me want to help myself so that I may be around for many years to come..

I am like many others and would enjoy more quality time with my kids, playing, not just sitting on the bench at the park..  Taking walks with them that don't kill me.. Taking advantage of the BEAUTIFUL BEACHES (I come from the Desert in Arizona)  that are within a mile or more from here, but don't do so, as it is so very hard for me to walk uphill alone, but in the sand, it is just crazy the how much harder it is to walk in sand... (I have done it a couple times, but would like to do it more)

I want to be healthier for ME and for my FAMILY..  So come January 6th, I will have a new Birthday/Surgiversary Day, and I will be on my way...

Thanks for taking the time to read, and Happy Holidays.

Hugs,
Jenn

Welcome to the board and congratulations on your surgery date.  You'll find a group here that for the most part are a little nervous and a lot excited.

Special thanks to your DH for his service in the military.  And thanks to you for supporting him.  I am  married for three years to a retired Army guy.

Did they just find the liver problems while planning this surgery?  I hope you biopsy comes back OK.  Keep us posted on that.

My surgery in Jan 19th and that seems so far away.  But I know time will fly.  I quit smoking three weeks ago for this, and I've been exercising  and practicing sipping and small bites and chewing.  But have't talked myself into giving up sodas quite yet.  That one's a hard one for me.

Don't  mind spelling errors or typos--why they can't add spellcheck is beyound me.

Great to have you on board, post often.

Hugs,

Deb

Thanks  Deb, I am happy to support my DH any way I can...I will let him know you pass on your Thanks...

My liver tests have been coming out bad for the last 5 years, but none of my Dr's ever did anything about it, saying I am to young, so it will get better on it's own..   This last year, they got even worse, and when we moved here to CA, my PCM was worried. He had me do tests for all the Hepatitis's and they all came back normal, so when he told me that I had some sever weight related problems, and wanted me to go and see Dr. Vierra (WLS Doc) I was concerned.. When I did my standard Lab Work, again my liver tests were bad, so he told me that it could be a couple different things.. Hepatitis or Cirrhosis since I was already tested and cleared from the Hepatitis, he thinks that more than likely there is some degree of Cirrhosis..  So I have known for a while that my liver tests were bad, just didn't know it was caused by something like this...  A true WOW moment (and not the good one)..  I will definitely keep you guys posted...

Congrats to you on your Surgery Date.. And even more so on quitting smoking.. That is AWESOME... I agree that you shouldn't try to give up caffeine/soda just yet, but shortly before you may want to try, so that you can get the with drawls or caffeine headaches before you go in for your surgery, rather than fighting them at the same time as healing from the surgery..

Hugs to you and I will be keeping you in my prayers..

And big Thanks to your hubby for his years of service too..

Jenn

Aren't you so excited...  I am so happy for you.. And thanks on the great tips. I have been trying to keep my protein at the level I should be after my surgery...

A tip also would be to start taking your vitimans..  That too will help..

Congrats on your surgery..  Yay!

Thanks hun...

I know isn't Monterey Great... I sure need to soak it all in before we have to move again.. (which is in like 2 years)    I don't want to have any regrets by not doing the things that I wanted to..

Wow, never heard of a liver biopsy being routine.. You should have inquired why  he is wanting to do one, just for your own knowledge.  You can call the office, and someone could look it up for you..  Always know what they are doing and WHY..  It is good peace of mind...

Thanks for making me feel so welcome..

((BIG HUGS))
