Hello Everyone! January 12th! Anyone With Me That Day?
Amanda
You all seriously rock...I am the one that feels so Blessed to be apart of this most amazing group!
It brings me so much happiness to motivate and encourage others, it helps taking this journey together so much more pleasant and bearable. I just could not do it alone, nor would I want to hear of anyone else doing it alone either.
Thanks for your much appreciated kind words. You made my day! Robin
Hey Robin...
I asked on the main board what to take to the hospital and what not to.
I wish i could find it so i could copy and paste it on here.
Its the basic stuff...
toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, deodorant, hand cream,shampoo/conditioner,a brush/comb, ponytail holders or a bandanna
ur own pillow, slipper socks or slippers,
if you want you can bring out own night gown just be prepared to get a few stain on them,
some powder to sprinkle on your sheets so you can slide in and out easier,
some pre-made thank you cards to give to the staff,
some note cards with your OH info and e-mail to give to other patients that you meet while you recover, a pen or pencil and maybe a note book,
someone mentioned something about gas-x strips
and i think someone else mentioned something about nose spray?
your glasses if you wear contacts
important phone #'s
a bathrobe
something big and loose to wear on the way home.
(i have a 2hr drive so i might even wear my nightgown home..i know once i get home i will go straight to my bed anyway!)
no one on the main board was able to read anything that they brought or do any kind of crossword puzzle or stuff like that.
I'm sure between all of us we can come up with a pretty good list!

Hi Amanda, Thank you very much for this great list!
1 thing I am going to add to the list is Ear Plugs, just in case you get a semi private room and your roommate is loud or just cannot help disturbing you the soft, mold-able type ear plugs purchased cheaply at any pharmacy will help out alot. Thanks again Amanda. Robin

Hello,
Thank you for the info on some beverages for us!! I think several varieties will be great so we don't feel like we are having the same stuff over and over.
I know some people have trouble with cold liquids right after. I am hoping to make some of my drinks slushy because I seem to like alo****ered down.
I am hoping to be ready to go back to work after 2 weeks. I am not sure I have any more paid time off.(I work school calendar). I do hear several go back after 2 weeks and others need more time. How much time do you plan to take?
We will have to post what is on our list for post op staples soon so we can compare! Everone else scheduled for the 1/12 date can post list of necessities too!
the more info the better!
Talk to ya soon,
Lisa

Hi Lisa, I think you will do just great. Remember the best thing to do is listen to your body. I believe if we follow our Dr.'s post-op directions, there is no reason we cannot set post-op goals for ourselves like going back to work in 2 weeks, returning to school or just back to our normal day to day routine. I have read where keeping hydrated (1/4 of a cup of liquid every 15 min. is absolutely necessary , walking (short 10 min. walks) often, Vitamins & supplements (No skipping on these ever, please) and rest...lots of it. Now of course these are not our Dr.s order written out for us to follow on discharge from the hospital, but a good idea at what we are looking at for a smooth and uneventful recovery. This is a great idea you have for us sharing our list of post-op staples and comparing. This will help us all with our shopping lists. Robin

Hi Kim, Welcome! So happy you have found us! I am not close to Vicksburg (sorry) I am about 45 min. away from the Gulf Of Mexico in a small town. I have always wanted to visit Vicksburg and hopefully will one day. I have never left the south, I think about it sometimes but I know the homesickness would get to me. Hope you get to come home one day! Robin
Hey girls!
Ok, the list of stuff to bring to the hospital????? Looks like a long list. I read not to bring anything but chapstick, your own pillows, toothbrush, socks(so your feet are not cold) and the loose clothes you wear into surgery you can wear home. I would bring a few pairs of underwear too. Everyone seems to agree: that you will not want to ruin any of your own nightwear(use hospital gowns), do not feel like reading alot, use the hospitals toothpaste, soap and lotion. Less is definitly better. I have a folder with a bunch of WLS info, food ideas for each phase, recipes and stories. I just seem to be throwing in everything I find on WLS that I think is useful. I will probably bring that too.
If you need anything or feel like reading you can usually get things right at the hospital or have someone bring it to you. I will be packing lightly.
I love the responses from everyone! It is great to have a bunch of WL buddies!
