Most of the problems that happen 2 and 3 years out are because people have stopped taking their vitamins and following their diet properly and get malnutrition. As long as you do what your doctor tells you to do you sho uld be fine.

have you researched the surgery??? because if you do you will see that the death rate is not that high. you will be fine. just make sure you have a good surgeon who has done the procedure enough to know what they are doing and do all the things they tell you to do.

My life is like McDonalds....I'm Lovin It

What a great testimony to the surgery- having a doc that had it done himself!!

Being nervous is normal. I'm scheduled for 1/6 and I'm starting to freak out a little bit. Like you I am so ready, but ... I do wonder if there are any long-term complications (meaning 10-15 yrs) from having this surgery. I also worry that when I get older I may need medications that aren't properly absorbed by an RNY gut. I just keep telling myself that if I don't do this my health will decline from being morbidly obese, so 15 years down the road may not even matter. It's a safe procedure. Like the other posters said, you have to follow all of the rules all of the time- and take your vitamins faithfully for the rest of your life.

Time will fly- enjoy the Holidays!

Hey Sandra....

Glad to hear you have been doing  ur research, I think sometimes i do too MUCH research and scare myself where there may not be a need for concern. The main board is the PERFECT example of a place where i get scared. You have to remember that the people who tell their stories may not be in a good place when they tell them. They may be really upset, overwhelmed, tired, cranky or a ton of other things. Not everyone follows the plan to a "T". Not everyone can admit that they messed up and that maybe some of the problems they are having are due to them...not the surgery. The surgery ( whichever you are having done) is ONLY A TOOL.
YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR PART. This is not a magic cure. You have to be committed to a lifetime of vitamins/supplements, follow up appointments with ur surgeon, exercise, eating properly and so much more. Its funny...if i could do all of that...then i wouldn't need the surgery...LOL.  But with WLS as a "tool" i feel like i will be better prepared to do all of that.  I have been doing research off and on for about 7 years. I know that this is the right time/thing for me.
You are the only one who knows if this is the right time or the right thing for you.

If you want to know what kinds of "problems" people are having 2-3 years or even more out...go to some of the other forums here on OH.  (Any WLS Regrets? , Complications , Rants and Raves) Be sure that your ready to hear all of the horror stories...LOL  Be sure that you also seek out people who are NOT having problems and that have had great success and who are living a better life. They have some awesome stories too. Don't be too caught up in the negative.  You really have to weigh the pro's and the con's.

Glad your here. Post often.
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!
