Amanda,
I know how you feel about the set days off. I worked as a nurse for about 17 years, working off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. Since I went back to school and became a Nurse Practitioner I have been working straight Mon-Fri with all holidays off, and I LOVE having a normal schedule. It's been about 10 yrs. now but I can remember how great it feels to get your life back!  Are you a nurse by any chance?

I agree, this board is one of the more active ones. It's nice to be out of the "mainstream" sometimes. It will  be a great support for all of us in the months ahead.

I, too worked as a nurse but am retired now.  So I know too about screwy schedules and begging for holidays off.  I keep so busy now I don't know how I did it while I was working.  I wonder if Amanda is a nurse, too.

I worked in the medical field from the time i was about 16 until my late 20's.
I was a C.N.A., a medical asst. and E.M.T on an ambulance and a ton of stuff in between. I liked doing hospice the best and didn't like working with sick kids. I became very burnt out and have since taken a step down and now work at a connivance store/gas station. I have been asked to be an assistant manger but ,,,,now this is going to sound weird...but id rather be the "employee" who goes above and beyond then the "asst. manager" that HAS to do everything and never can do enough.  Does that make sense?? I'm just at a point in my life where a title means nothing to me and having a job that i can punch in and 8hrs later go home. No stress, no hassle,  nobody will die if the coffee doesn't get made...LOL

I think id look to go back to school and become a certified ESTHETICIAN. Id LOVE to get paid to squeeze other peoples zits and blackheads!!!   No really....my dad always told me to find something i love to do and do that for a living and you never have to "work" a day in your life.  I would love to work at a spa and do facials and sit in a dim room with waterfalls and soft music playing...i could probably do that for 8 hours...LOL     Maybe i could get a job on a cruise ship!!   See, if i was not going to have WLS i would never think BIG like that. Id never dream of being at a spa taking "care of people" at my current weight.

Sound like youpve done it all.  I know what you mean though about just wanting to be an employee insteac of the stressed out manager.

Isn't it fun to dream about what life holds when the sterotype of being overweight will be gone...  A spa would be a neat place to work.

Hugs,

Deb

Being an esthetician would be a great job. A friend of a girl I work with teaches at a local school for estheticians. We go there for cheap facials and massages- and they do a fantastic job! Your dad is right, you really do have to love what you're doing. We have to work so many years- it may as well be enjoyable. Just think of the opportunities that you'll be able to pursue once the weight starts coming off...
