i was told last month that i need to lose 10 pounds before surgery... i tried the atkins lc approach but the nutritionist said that i need to be eating way more carbs and told me to add fruit...im scared to death that the extra carbs will cause me not to lose the amount of weight i am suppose to lose...

what eating changes did you guys do to lose your weight before surgery day. I have about 4 weeks to get this weight off

I have not really started yet...BUT...if your body is not getting what it needs..it will hold on to EVERYTHING it can and wont let you lose at all.  Id do what the nutritionist says and see what happens!!

I was able to get my 10% off with weigh****chers and replacing 1 meal a day with Slim Fast high protein(made with water and lots of ice in a blender)  It truly worked for me.  I am scheduled for Jan 7th,  So my surgery is probably around the same time as yours.  I also did not really snack and I only drink water - 66 oz a day, its hard to do, but just carry that bottle with you.

I cut carbs too, I did more protein and I did some walking not a lot of walking, maybe 30 - 40 minutes a day.

Best of luck, you both can do.

I have to have 15 off by Jan 5 (my date).  My nutritionist prescribes a specific diet:

8 servings dairy/protein (low fat)
2 servings grains
1 serving fat
any amount of fruits/veggies

It ends up being about 1,000 cals/day.  I lost 5 lbs during this past week, so it's doing something.  Of course, I hate veggies, so it's been hard for me to get in 1,000 cals without going over the prescribed portions, so I've been hitting about 850 cals/day.   I've only been doing it for a week, so hasn't been too bad yet.  Ask me on xmas eve though...  ha!

thanks ladies for the advice... a lot of your tips were very helpful

i came up with a lc plan im just gonna add about once or two servings of   fruit a day to still keep the carbs lower and then 3 or 4 servings of veggies a day and then my needed protein...trying to stay low fat too instead of the high fat that atkins reccommends.... and im working on not eating and drinking together and taking 30 minutes to eat my food...

the nut says to exercise 30 min to 60 min a day 3-5 days a week...the doc says 7 days a week for one hour....i guess im just gonna do what i can :) which will probably be about 5 days a week

Have you started with your Vitim's yet??
I wonder if that would help??

DRINK A TON OF WATER....MORE THEN YOU HAVE TO!!!
It flushes everything out and if your not getting enough in you will actually hold onto the water you already have. Water weight is a witch!!!  ( can i say that on here...lol)

yes im taking my flintstone vitamins...i was doing once a day but i hear you need to take them twice a day so im doing that... im also taking some green tea pills that help curb appetite and help to lose weight...but i have to stop taking them two weeks prior to surgery...

im trying to get the water in but it is really hard for me to do...but your right i want to lose all the water weight i can. it feels good cause im learning to eat properly without being on a " fad diet" i just cant wait to see results

As far as I know, I don't have to lose weight prior to surgery. I see the surgeon for pre-op visit and conult of Jan 6.
