hello I am new to this.  I am scheduled for surgery on 1-5-09.  I find myself thinking about it constantly.  All I want to do is read about it talk about and get on with it.  Any suggestions about how to deal with the obsession?

First and foremost...WELCOME to the JAN BOARD!!

Second, congrats for the JAN date!
(your having your surgery on my daughters 13Th birthday and its also the day i have to start my liquid diet!)

I know exactly what you mean by being "obsessed". I find myself talking to my husband about it consistly! I know he must be sick of hearing about it and probably wishes i would just have it already so i would shut up..LOL

This is probably a good question to ask the MAIN BOARD. I would think that most, if not all of us who are having WLS feel the same way. How could we not?? LOL

My surgery date was suppose to be in OCT but i changed it to JAN. I have days where i don't get off the computer and research and look up everything i can about WLS. I have read books from the library, gotten recipes off line, spent countless hours on this web page reading EVERYTHING and have basically driven my husband nuts...oh wait i already said that..LOL

I think its normal....we are about to embark on a life long life-style change. Its MAJOR surgery and its something that is going to make a huge difference in our lives!
(and the lives of our family...we can now keep up with them!!)
I'm excited, scared, nervous and on some days I have second thoughts. mostly I wi**** would just hurry up and get here!
(I know this is what I need to do so lets just do it and get it over with!!)

If you passed your pyshic evaluation, then obviously your NOT crazy....ha ha ha!
Hang in there. Be excited about what you are about to do for yourself and enjoy the last few you days you have to eat whatever you want. (i guess that's good advice?) I find that i don't even enjoy food anymore. I have bascily made my peace with all the fast food places around here. I have ordered my favorites  and kinda had a talk in my head about how i will never get to have it again....and that's OK. It's OK to say good-bye to them and get closure.
THAT sounds crazy...i know...but its working for me. LOL

Hey...post as often as you would like. Post about whatever is on your mind...and know that we are all here for you!! This is a good bunch of gals and we are all going to have WLS about the same time. We are a good support for each other. Hang in there!!

I think the closer it gets the more obssessed we become. I want to talk about it all the time too. My family is tired of hearing it...lol. Oh well. It could be worse. Hopefully I will get a date soon.

I also talk about this constantly with my hubby.  He is awesome and is trying to learn all he can so that he can be helpful.  He knows I am SO READY to get it done already!

I was going to have the surgery in December, but it would have totally messed up our annual vacation.  The same way you hve said goodbye to your favorite fast food places, I am going to have to say goodbye to a lot of my favorite restaurants in Disney World this year!

I kow when we go next year i can still eat at a lot of my favorite places, but it will be much different!  No more stopping by the pastry shop in France and Norway, no more of the gigantic steak in Canada at Le Cellier.  No more of the amazing fried chicken at the 50's Prime Time Cafe.

No more having a drink in every country!  BUT I will feel better about myself and feel healthier than ever before and will not run from the picture taking, but welcome it!
