Newbie with a few questions

Hi.  I'm new here and hoping to have the surgery in Feb 09.  I have to go to my seminar next week and then I will get my first appointment.  I am wondering which tests/Dr's i will need to see before having my surgery.  I want to get started on some of this to help move my case forward.  I already know my insurance will approve it which is good.

Any info anyone can give would be great.

Welcome!  I think every Surgions requirements are a little different.  I have to go through a 6 month "pathway" to get the surgery.  I had to go to 2 physcologist appointments, 6 monthly support meetings, 2 Nutritionist appointments, an EKG, 8 week long nutrition class, and I need to be cleared for surgery by my normal Dr and my pre op appoitment.  I think thats everything!!  I am doing this through the Navy so there are a lot of hoops to jump through.

Hi and welcome to the list. I have had to do a 6 month dr supervised diet with a monthly weigh in, 1 psych eval, ekg, echocardiogram, sleep study, and dietician. All this has to be completed before the surgeon will do the consult. All insurances require about the same things with a few differences. Call your insurance and ask them.

Thanks for the response.  As far as I know right now, my insurance does not require the 6 month wait.  I recently had an endoscopy, chest exray, pap, bloodwork, the ENT looked down my throat, etc.  I was told by a friend I will need the EKG and a mammogram so I am getting ready to schedule them.. Some have told me I need a colonoscopy and some say I don't so I guess that will depend on my doctor.  I also heard I will need the psych eval so it looks like I am on my way.
I guess I will have more questions once I get further along in the process.  It is nice to know this forum is here to help.
