Hi Tina. I am Emily. I am 39 and live in OK. I am going to have RNY surgery in January at least that is what I hope. I started the whole process in July of 2007 and then I let my husband talk me out of it.  I have decided to do it for myself and now I have started the whole process all over again. I have been to the cardiologist and have clearance from him. I go to the pulmonologist on the 24th and to the psych on Oct 2. The surgeon's office has put my file in line to have a consult, but there is 20 people ahead of me so they said to look for a surgery date of Jan. I am excited and honestly I hope some people drop out or whatever so that it moves a lot faster and I don't have to meet my insurance deductible again for a new year. It seems like it takes forever to get from the start to the surgery.  I hope it goes fast.

Hi Emily
I'm excited to have a friend here ;)
well it sounds like ur almost there honey, r u nervous about the psych thing? i kinda am because my Dr says i might not meet the criteria to have the surgery not sure why he & his team r going to discuss @ some point; & until then I am to continue with steps to have surgery. I've done the cardio. the nutrition wrkin on the 10% weight loss, need a sonogram on my gallbladder & psych visit. I'm not sure what decides my fate but i hope it falls my way I'm so tired of the continuous struggles of being fat.
Good for you in deciding to do this for u. only u knows how u feel carrying the xtra u around everyday. I wish my sister thought that way; she like u was talked out of doing surgery by her husband; on the VERY day of her surgery! she was in a gown waiting for Doc & backed out for him. Crazy unh. hey whats a Pulmonologist for?
well keep in touch Emily & I'll do the same k
And thanks for the email

Tina, a pulmonologist is a lung doctor and they give you a bunch of breathing tests. It is to make sure your lungs will hold  up under anesthesia. Some of them also test you for sleep apnea. I have sleep apnea and have had for several years. I went yesterday and got the clearance. I am not really worried about the psych visit. I have it next week on Oct 2. It is just to make sure you can handle all the changes you have to make. I have already made a lot of changes so I don't anticipate a problem. I don't drink soda. I am on a low carb diet, and I have started walking so I am in pretty good shape to get the clearance. I am anxious and excited. I just wish I didn't have to wait until january to have it. I am not a real patient person. but, I know it will be here before I know it. After I have the psych I have to call the surgeon and let them know I am done with all the pre-op appointments. Hope you have a good weekend. Keep in touch.

Hi Amanda. It is nice to meet you. I know what you mean about thinking what are you doing. I have done that a couple of times myself. I am really excited to have the surgery, but am sort of afraid that I will grieve for food. I hope I don't, but from what I understand it is pretty normal to go through that. That is awesome that you already have a January date. I haven't gotten to see the surgeon yet. I am still waiting.
