Hi there, I am not travelling that far to have surgery, but it is two hours away. My husband will be with me before the surgery, after the surgery and will be staying close by. My son should be driving down to be there for me. Best of luck and let's all look forward to a healthy 2008~

Hi there, Anneke -- My son and my mother would prefer that I did not have the surgery based on risks associated. I totally understand how they feel, but I do my best to point out the pros and cons and risks associated by not doing the surgery. The hospital that has approved my surgery has a great support group. I have been going to meetings once a month and will continue after surgery. I nearly lost it when I got up to speak last month. It's important that you surround yourself with positive people. It's also good to talk openly about your fears. My husband offers excellent support! He is also a gastric by pass success; he had surgery in 2004. He looks awesome! Keep the faith and good thoughts.

Hi there, Carrie! Good thoughts my friend....good toughts! I try to look at the positive outcomes, as well. But, yes, one of my fears is that 0.5% chance of death. Just think....if we do not do anything at this point, our health could be at greater risk due to possible medical issues and gaining more weight. My date is not until 1/17/08, but it is right around the corner. Be around positive and upbeat people and please make sure you have your support group around you.
