Topic: RE: How long did it take form the first visit to surgery.
Just wanted to share my info with you i started the process in July of 2006 i am scheduled for surgery Jan28th.It not only depends on the insurance but also the program.I had to go to 2 support groups prior. meet with Heart and wellness center cardio dr nutritionist pshych testing and had a sleep study. During the sleep study they found i have sleepapnea so i had to get the CPAP machine before they would schedule my date. Also depending how big trhe program you need to get appointments and they might be backed up.On Jan14th i will start aliquid diet for 2 weeks not all Dr.s do this either.Well good luck to you I have heard from many the wait is worth it. I had to do a psych evaluation, sleep study, and a few trips to the neutritionist before my insurance co would consider the surgery. The process can take any where from months to a year before you have the actual surgery. Everything depends on the insurance co and what the expect from you.
Topic: RE: Back home and on the mend
Hi Karen,
I had surgery on Monday, 1/7/08, as well and left the hospital on Tuesday evening. The nurses said I was trying to run a marathon in the hall; I was actually trying to convince my doctor to let me go home, so I could get some rest. I did feel good on Tuesday, but by Wednesday, it felt like a Mack truck had run over me and backed up again for good measure.
My husband gave me a whole "poor me" day and is pushing me a little more today to get in gear... walk, drink water, drink protein, etc. Doggone WLS magazine they gave me in the hospital... he's been reading it.
I guess these up and down days are to be expected, but overall, things are going really well with everything being tolerated well.
I hope your recovery continues to go as good as well.

Congratulations! Two days after mine. Seems pretty strange, doesn't it? We've waited all this time and it is just around the corner. Best wishes to you, Heather!!

I am new at this. I emailed the bariatric clinic that is out of St Francis Womens Hospital. I recieved an email back saying that they will call me in the morning. I have been to siminars in the past but did not proceed with it becouse I was told that my inshurance would not pay for it. After doing so investigation I found that Dr Eric Bour MD and St Francis are Both covered on my plan and he has dune surgerys under my inshurance. What kinda info will I need to have and how long is the whole process on average.
Thanks.

I had my operation on Monday morning and got home this afternoon. I didn't realize how little I would actually be able to tolerate. You prepare and research and then it's still an aha moment. The pain is no where near as bad as I thought it would be. I am happy to be home, even though the hospital staff was wonderful.
Good luck to all whose surgery is coming up.
