I am 3wks post-op During my first week, my surgeon told me that it was ok to have cream of wheat cereal made with milk, 1/4pat butter, sugar to taste. (sometimes I did mix protein shake in it as well) It was soothing to the tummy and was a lifesaver...be sure to make it kinda runny though, otherwise yogurt, soups without chunks, try mixing protein drink mix into some van. pudding MAX MUSCLE has a delicious protein shake- no kidding!!!! tastes JUST like choc milk. 130 cal 1g fat 26g protein 6 carbs. you can only get it at Max Muscle stores. mixed with 2% milk 1c, 260 cal, and 34g of protein... Anita, Keep a food diary. Count your protein!!! You msut get in 60g of protein/d, it helps with the healing process. I know that you are only on liquids right now and it is difficult. I only drank protein shakes, yogurt, tomato soup, and cream of wheat (with milk, and soupy) I am only 3wks post-op. The most important thing to remember is to get your protein in gurl. I didnt feel hungry, but I didnt feel full either. I got a FANTASTIC protein drink tastes just like choc. milk from MAX MUSCLE, 130ca, 1g fat, 26g protein, mixed with 1c 2% milk will give you 260ca and 34g of protein. At 10d out I felt like I was going to go crazy, I hated what I had to eat, I was grouch, and irritable...you just have to take it 1 day at a time. I did start eating pureed food day 13 and let me tell you, that 1/2 johnsonville brat blended with cottage chez was the best thing I have ever tasted. I do have a confession though.....at day 12 I had had enough of the liquids/yogurt...I wanted something crunchy, something tasty...I know this sounds disgusting and I really dont recommend it to anyone but I put food into my mouth, chewed it, tasted it, crunched it, then spit it out because I knew my stomach couldnt handle food yet, but it satisfied me. It made it easier for me to continue with the liquids.... Good luck!!! Carolyn

Jodi, Iwas just like you post-op. I hated the protein shakes - couldn't take it. I did find the clear liquid protein drinks okay. Special K has one now and there's another brnad I'm forgetting. I had the same frame of mind.... eat good choices, high in protein when hungry. It worked great for melost good numbers my first weeks. I did start to lose my hair around month three from low protein - so watch for that! Just think "High protein" when it's time to eat!

My shakes are not bad. I use 4 oz of soy milk plus 4 oz of Ensure then unflavored protein powder. My nutritionist tells us to add unflavored protein powder to anything. Unjury is the best. I added some to chicken broth and I didn't notice. Beneprotein is good too.

Topic: Scolded By My Doctor....
So, yesterday was my 2 week post surgical appointment. And I got scolded, big time, for not eating 50 grams of protein daily. I am just not that hungry!! And, when I do develop hunger, I try hard to make the right food choices (cheese, yogurt, beans). But, after a few bites, I feel nauseous. I have tried practically every protein shake on the market and cannot find any of them palatable. They are vile! How can anyone expect a person to drink them?!? I just don't know what to do. I called my nutritionist yesterday and I still haven't heard back from her. The doctor sent me home with strict instructions to eat/drink 50 grams of protein each day. I just don't see this as a reasonable goal - so, what am I supposed to do? Anyone have any advice/suggestions/comments? I'm totally not trying to be a difficult patient, I just don't know how to move beyond this protein hurdle!
