Thank you very much for your reply. It's a huge help...and btw, you look GREAT!
Topic: RE: How Much? How Fast?
I had RNY (gastric bypass) on 1/31. I did alot of research too and had first thought I wanted the lapband becuase it was a less invasive procedure but after speaking to my surgeon he said that the lap is for those needing to lose less weight...under 100lbs. I actually only have about that much to lose,..,...but he said long term, the rny AN DS have better success rate than the band. In my research, RNY or DS is the way to go for more weightloss; as well as keeping it off in the long run.
YOu have to do lots of reserach and just do what's best for you. there are people that are very insistant on the surgery they had...but in the long run, make a decision based on what is the best for you. You shoudl have an indepth conversation with you surgeon.
FYI...my coworker who started out at well over 300 lbs wanted the band; but becaue of the amount of weight, the surgeon and insurance would only consider RNY or DS...so you may be forced to look at other options if you have 100+ to lose.
Good luck to you and say on line with OH....it's been a huge help to me.

Topic: How Much? How Fast?
Hi - new to OH and need some guidance... I want to lose 100-125 lbs., and the surgeon I consulted has recommended the Lap Band for me. I'm not sure if I can lose that much weight with this approach as all my research thus far indicates that this choice - while being the least invasive and safest - is also the slowest way to lose my weight. Now that I've made the decision, I just want it gone! Rather than keep reading on my own, I thought I'd go to the true experts...those of you who've already crossed this bridget. Anxious to hear your experiences and thoughts! Thanks in advance!

Topic: RE: weight stall for 4+ weeks
I have had 2 stalls already, one was 2 weeks after surgery and lasted 2 weeks and then 5 weeks out and lasted 1 week. At my 8 week aniversary I have lost 30 pounds, it seems we are both classified as slow losers according to my surgeon. Hang in there I have been told by other surgical patients that it will happen and in one year we will have still lost a large amount of weight just at a slower rate.
Topic: RE: weight stall for 4+ weeks
How many calories a day are you eating? I had a bad plateau for about two weeks and went to my doctor who informed me that I was eating about 400 TOO FEW. If you are not taking enough in your body will try to hold on to the weight for preservation. Check with your doctor, but mine said to try for 800 cals/day. I have only achieved that once (and it took eating every two hours from the time i woke up until the time i went to sleep) but since I've started hovering around the 700 mark, my weight loss has picked up again.
Also, if your caloric intake is low, u might want to go easier with the exercise that day. It's just a theory but when i don't eat enough and work out hard i stall. If I eat well and work out hard i lose. If I eat poorly and go easy on the workout that day i still lose. But that's just me.
Hope this helps. Do you keep a food diary? Try one of the online ones. That will give you a good idea of what you are taking in.
Topic: weight stall for 4+ weeks
HI All.
Writing here because we all had our surgeries in January 08.
I have been at a weight stall for 4 weeks and one day now. I am trying very hard not to get discouraged; but dang......i expected it to kick start again; but no go.
I have lost 29lbs and that was in the first 2 weeks...after that things just stopped.
I am getting alot of liquid in. Getting in most of my protein (still dfrinking protein shakes once or twice a day) and exercising. I"ve even stepped it up to advanced aerobics and i'm the same.
I haven't measured myself since my 1 month out. I'll wait for end of march for that; but wondering if you are experiencing this and what you did to kick start the loss.
I"m jus trying really hard not to get in a place of being discouraged; but it's becoming less and less easy for that.
Topic: RE: some food issues
Yup, I was also told that we will get better over time. The only meat I can tolerate is pork and pepperoni that has been in the microwave for about a minute to make them into chips. I have been living on soy nuts (11 g. protein a serving) and string cheese. I posted about this same thing on the CT board under 9 weeks out if you want to read the responses.
Topic: some food issues
I was jsut wondering if anyone else is having problems with meats. I can not seem to tolerate any type of meats. Also foods I enjoyed befor surgery are just not to my likeing anymore and anything thats been processed in the slightest makes my tummy feel awful. I was just wondering if anyone else was in the same boat as me.
Topic: RE: Weight loss
I was told by my doctor I am a slow loser, I have lost 28 pounds as of this morning and it is driving me crazy because I want to lose faster.
