I am sooooo...... scared......
It's been one week today since my bypass surgery......I feel hungry, confused, and disheartened. I'm not sure how much to eat.....I have not had a "feeling of fullness" yet. I am down 10lbs from one week ago so I guess I'm doing the right things. Any tips on how to deal with post-surgical "blues"

Anita, Keep a food diary. Count your protein!!! You msut get in 60g of protein/d, it helps with the healing process. I know that you are only on liquids right now and it is difficult. I only drank protein shakes, yogurt, tomato soup, and cream of wheat (with milk, and soupy) I am only 3wks post-op. The most important thing to remember is to get your protein in gurl. I didnt feel hungry, but I didnt feel full either. I got a FANTASTIC protein drink tastes just like choc. milk from MAX MUSCLE, 130ca, 1g fat, 26g protein, mixed with 1c 2% milk will give you 260ca and 34g of protein. At 10d out I felt like I was going to go crazy, I hated what I had to eat, I was grouch, and irritable...you just have to take it 1 day at a time. I did start eating pureed food day 13 and let me tell you, that 1/2 johnsonville brat blended with cottage chez was the best thing I have ever tasted. I do have a confession though.....at day 12 I had had enough of the liquids/yogurt...I wanted something crunchy, something tasty...I know this sounds disgusting and I really dont recommend it to anyone but I put food into my mouth, chewed it, tasted it, crunched it, then spit it out because I knew my stomach couldnt handle food yet, but it satisfied me. It made it easier for me to continue with the liquids....
Good luck!!!

Anita, Im glad to hear that you are feeling better- Hope to hear good things on your 2wk apt!!. Things do get easier- trust me. If you are anything like me, after my surgery, I felt like there was this loss inside that I didn't think I would be able to have, even just a little bit. Afraid I was going to screw something up, eat the wrong things, or even worse, not even to start losing weight. The fear of the unknown is common. Trust yourself. When in doubt, do exactly what your doctors tell you to do, they are the experts and tell yourself that you are doing everything right.
take care!!

I am going on my third week and thank god for cottage cheese, yougart, and applesause. I have not been able to stand anything sweet tasting at all so all the protien drinks make me feel sick. I cooked some chicken put it in a crock pot for 24 hours, it made great broth and the meat is so tender, it melts in your mouth. I had some chicken twice today and feel great. I just really missed chewing so this gave me something I could chew and injoy, and I am getting some protien too.
Good luck Bernadette
