Good Monday Morning My January Lovelies! Okay, so it's really more like the afternoon...but who's counting? lol.

So...Punxsutauny Phil has decided that we are all in for 6 more weeks of winter. For some that's horrible news, but for those of us in CA it's actually welcome news. We are sooo dry and are in the midst of another drought...rain in the valley and snow in the mountains is what we need.
In other news, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was sworn in this afternoon. The tides of change are moving and I feel great optimism.

Okay, enough current events...on with the stats:

Surgery/high: 251.5
Last week: 142.8
Today: 140.8

My two year (omg???) visit is on Friday. I can't believe it has been 24 months already. On one hand, my life seems as though it has always been this way...on the other, I still have moments of slight panic when contemplating that this is "forever." You'd think I would be completely used to this life by now. I can say with relief that I have no troubles *knock on wood* with maintaining or eating. My only downfall is that I still don't take my supplements as seriously as I should...I do make sure to "catch up" when I am lax...but I shouldn't be lax in the first place!
Okay ladies, and any gents that might be lurking...let's get going on accountability for the week and get posting!!!

Good afternoon!!!

Well...
after hitting a low of 118 this week I am happy to say I am back up to a healthy 122...

HW 250
LW 120
TW 122

Not quite sure what's been going on with me- my habits usually run the other way... so this has been a little wierd.  My BMI was below normal- guess I had been calculating it wrong.  Now I'm back up in the normal range so all is well.

Hope you get some rain Suz!!!  :)
Take Care everyone-

I'm glad to hear that you are back into the normal range....118 is super-tiny for your height. You better stay healthy, young lady . lol.

Yep...I'm praying to the rain-gods that we will actually get at least some of the rain they are forecasting for this week. It's going to be a rough, dry summer.

I know, I know...You guys thought I dropped off the face of the earth, but I'm still around. I haven't visited OH in awhile, and since I just celebrated 2 years I thought I'd better stop in and say hi to all my old friends.
So

Monday morning weigh ins....I sure miss those

Surgery High 242 lbs
Current 115

Been at the same weight, plus or minus 3 lbs for a year now. Trying to stay healthy, had a rough 08, but am expecting a much better 2009. Ended up with a total of 5 different surgeries for 08...too much drama to discuss, but most of it related to my original gastric bypass and some of it unavoidable.

I hope everyone is well.

Miss ya!

Lori!! Oh my goodness..look what the cat dragged in!!! Long time, no see, stranger!! I was just thinking about you and wondering how you were. I don't think we've heard from you since last year about the time you had the beginning of your medical issues (?) and around the time of those big storms that ravaged Texas.

I am so sorry to hear that you have been battling medical problems and surgeries...I truly wish you all the comfort and ease that you deserve to have. Please fill us in with whatever you feel comfortable sharing...we are always here to support you and empathize for you whenever you need us to. Not to mention that it benefits us all when we share our experiences and troubles related to surgery.

We miss seeing your lovely face around here...so you better come around more often! That's an order!

Yeah I think I checked in after my 1st surgeries and that was it for the year. I hadn't thought about how some of it may benefit you guys so I probably should share what I went through.

So here goes...

After the big bowel obstruction/ hernia repair surgery in April of last year I considered a case against my surgeon because he had repeatedly told me that something must be irritating my pouch all the while my bowels were strangulated and dying off. Thank God I persisted by telling them that the problem was severe enough and had another Dr check it out when I went in for the hysterectomy, and he repaired the problem. But...rather than sue the Dr. I decided that it was I who signed the release forms knowing full well what I was getting into..even though my problem went undiagnosed for almost 14 months. So I let it ride... a few months later I developed a hernia along my incisional line and had to go in for a repair. The repair ended up being twice as much as we had initially expected and this was the point my family said...Lori, had the DR not let  this issue ride for so long you would not being going through all these surgeries. So it was at this point I decided to try to persue a case with my GB surgeon. In ordering my medical records we found a very interesting piece of information. The Upper GI done the day after my original gastric bypass surgery included a radiology report that showed an obstruction. Not only was it never addressed or brought to my attention, when I was hopitalized for an obstruction at 7 months post op I was released 3 days later after given meds but without further investigation or  mention of the previous report. So the Dr had numerous opportunities to diagnose and treat the obstruction but it was as if he was under the impression it was no big deal. He has since retired. In December I had an additional surgery which I will discuss later, but although I was told by several attorneys I had a VERY strong case, I waited too long to address it, only starting in December when my statue was up Jan 31st 09 (2 years after my initial surgery).... So That said...no big deal. I will continue as I have and take things one day at a time.

One other bit of advice. The last surgery I had was related to a rectal issue that came up from almost 2 years of lose bowel movements. For the last year I have been having intermittant pain with BM's and thought it was hemmoroids. I blew it off because NOBODY likes to have a Dr examine their hind side....unless the pain is excruciating. That's what finally took me to the Dr. The pain was totally unbearable...so I went to see a specalist and had an acute fissure or tear. I ended up having a sphincterotomy. Had I addressed the issue when it first came up there was a much greater chance it would have been corrected with medication but because I let mine go so long it could only be corrected with surgery...SO, as with everything else, be sure you address any issues that arise as soon as they come up.

And I guess that's my update for now.

Wow, Lori. I am so sorry to hear that you've had to go through all of this. It must be such a blow to have put all of your trust in your surgeon and to then have him end up being incompetent.

I do have a question regarding the bowel issues, if you don't mind. Did they ever figure out why you had loose bm's for so long? Did it cause the condition that you ended up having, or did the loose bowels happen because of it? Like you said, no one really likes to have their rear inspected or to have bowel issues at all...but it also seems that as post-ops we spend an inordinate amount of time interested/obsessed with them. lol. Sometimes for good reason.

I just hope that you have an easier time of it as we move into our third year. After all, we did this to be healthy and happy.

He said that the lose BM's can be par for the course. He also said that people don't always consider this type of thing happening as a side effect of the surgery, but says it's fairly common after WLS. He suggested that I up my fiber intake which is hard for me to do...Fibers usually involve high amounts of carbs also... Still not much change with the BM's but the surgery saved my sanity. NO ONE should ever have to go through that amount of pain. It was EXCRUCUATING...like nothing I've ever felt before and I put up with it for about 3 weeks straight. Not mention about 4 prior occurances/ flare ups that I thought were hemmoroids. Ahh the joys and conversations post op...

Lori-
I read a bout a guy who had a fissure post-op and it sounded terrible.  I just can't even imagine.  I can't believe you put it off- ugh!!!
Hopefully that is behind you- so to speak... :)

Lori-
You have been through the ringer- I am so sorry you've had to endure such pain and poor medical care.  I am glad you've been able to heal- despite the multitude of surgeries required for it.
On another note- I went to your presonal site and saw all your pictures and i especially loved the one of you standing in the single leg of one of your old pants.  I know how thin you are and I hate to send a mixed message in case you are fighting something- but in case you're not- you do look truly beautiful.  You look very skinny- but you look very pretty too- like a girl who was born very thin and never had a weight problem.
I HAVE to ask- what are you doing to get those arms?  Are you lifting a lot?  Toning or what?  They look great!!!
