2 lab sets ago my Vitamin D was low and she put me on RX 50,000 units 1x/wk for 4 weeks.

This last set it was still low so she wrote on the bottom "continue high dose vitamin D 50,000 units 1x/wk x 16 weeks.
Well, I went to refill my Vitamin D and it was only for 4 weeks and there were no refills so I called the Dr and spoke with her nurse.  I told the nurse/tech whomever to go pull my chart to see where it's written and would she please call me in a refill?  She said she'd call me back after she talked to the Dr.  She called back within 15 minutes and said " we'll just retest it the next time we do your labs".  I told her I just did my labs today and that Vit D wasn't on there because she said the medicine wouldn't be done yet and we wouldn't see results.

I cannot tell you how freaking annoyed I am with this medical system.  Does no one care that my iron levels are low and that my freaking ferritin levels are less than 1/2 of what they should be?
Am I just a total hypochondriac?  Is this really not a big deal?
I am so freaking exhausted that one day my kids were late for school because I overslept.  I nap every day and the ONLY time I'm not tired is when I'm exercising- even then- afterwards I'm toast.
Am I going crazy?

Brit - nope you're not going crazy. Sounds like no one is clear on what you should take and when. If I were you I would call your doctor's office and ask for the doctor to call you back personally. THis is your health we're talking about here. Make sure and mention how tired you are. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Well, the only advice (lame as it is) that I have to give is what you already know....don't give up asking for what you need and want, and always be your own health advocate. I don't think that you are being a hypochondriac if you are having both physical and chemical symptoms. I guess you'll have to just keep pushing and educating your providers on the importance of post-op vitamin/mineral levels. Low levels for too long could literally kill us, or at the very least lead to irreversible damage.
Are they going to order a seperate Vit. D test for you soon?

Ditto what was already said....call back and have get the doctor to call you personally to find out exactly what she ordered and get what you need!  keep us posted.  My vitamin D was low recently too and I had to take the high dosage for 10 weeks and then went to get my labs Tuesday...I have not heard the results yet so I am going to call today and make sure all was well.  Keep us posted!!
