Update on my Doctor's Appt
Hey ladies...thank you so much for your prayers, concerns and thoughts!! I can not begin to tell you how much I appreciate this board!! You guys are so a great support system!
Basically they still don't know what is causing me to have all the swelling, my ct of the abd and pelvis showed that the swelling was not only in my lower right leg, but also in my abdomen and thighs as well. The right side of my heart is mildly enlarge but functioning normally (had to get a echocardigram). But my internal medicine doctor still wanted me to see a cardiologist to be on the safe side. So I went there today and he did an EKG and did not find anything abnormal. So we still don't know. He said it could be due to be heavy so long that my breathing was strained and caused the right side of my heart to have to work too hard to get blood to my lungs (never had any symptoms of that so I am not really buying his answer). He also stated that my asthma could cause the problems as well. I have to go back to see the internal medicine doctor on Next Tuesday and I guess she will decide what to do from there. Sounds like after all this poking, proding and running from doctor to doctor, the answer is still the same...they don't know and don't worry about it. Also in the midst of all this testing, they found that I have small gallstones. I am not having any symptoms or anything from it so she is not pressed to do anythign about it. But my surgeron said that with gb patients, they usually treat the gallstones aggressively becuase if the stones move out of the gallbladder, it is usuallly treated by operating thru the stomach which is not an option for gb patients. My 18 month check up is on the 31 and I will know what he wants to do with the gallstones at that time.
I feel fine but I am still having lots of swelling and I am bit frustrated because I am still at square one. I am pleased that the internal medicine doctor has done a very through job of trying to find out the problem and give me a solution. So if anything different comes out of my appts next week, I will definitely let you ladies know.
Again, thanks for the support and concern! You all are the best EVER!!
UGH Stephanie, doesn't that drive you crazy when they can't figure out what's going on? I guess no news is better than bad news, but I know you want to know what's going on so you can treat it. I agree, no salt in food would be blah. I don't use a ton of salt, but I do like some on my food. Are you still keeping up w/ your water intake?
I hope they find out what's causing this and praying that it's a minor issue.
How are you doing now? I know, besides medically, you doing ok??? Hope so. ***hugs****
Janie, it does drive me nuts that they don't know why this is happening and I never thought I would say this being that I am self proclaimed going to the doctor nut...but I am so tired of going to the doctor now.
Most days I get in at least 80 oz of water but a few days in the past couple of weeks I have not gotten in my full amounts..I have been slacking.....
And I can not express to you how much I appreciate your prayers.
I am doing ok, I have my ups and downs and more down lately than up...I am so dissappointed in myself in allowing this weight regain and letting my eating habits going back to the way they used to be. I am starting to feel like a failure and just have no idea how to snap back. I am in therapy and still doing my support groups but its like I am sliding down a steep slope and the momentum is too fast for me to stop it...but I will. I was read this quote the other day that said "you were successful before and you will be again.....that is my new motto. I am just in the middle of a set back but set backs are set ups for God to bless us!! So I am working thru this and will get my mind back on track so I can get this regain off and keep it off this time. It is amazing how easily the weight can come back on and it is SCARY! But this is a lifestyle change and it has to be treated as such and not as something to do until you reach your goal.
Sorry to write such a long reply but I really really really appreciate your prayers and your encouragement! U Guys are the best.
Steph
Steph - I totally agree w/ you. I'm surprised how easy it is to gain weight. I've seen my weight go up about 3 lbs in just a couple of days if I haven't been eating the right foods and if I'm not drinking enough water. It's quit scary, much easier to gain then lose. I'm afraid I'll have to always keep an eye out for what I eat the rest of my life. That's ok though, I'm able to eat the not so good foods in moderation. It would stink to not be able to eat carbs or sweets the rest of our lives. So, moderation is the key.
You are doing wonderful and have come so far. You know you can get back on your feet, and you have the power also (and God by your side) This is just a test and you will be stronger when you come out of it. Hang in there and stay positive!
I am so relieved to hear that there doesn't seem to be anything serious to find at the moment. It's great news that your EKG is normal...a good electrical system is an important thing to have ;o****ep us posted...and though I didn't comment on the other MMWI thread....congrats on dropping 5# this week!
