Help..My Tummy Hurts
Hi Guys....Today is the first time since I had my surgery that I woke up not feeling well. I don't even have an appetite and that is so not normal! I have a dull ache on my left side and also right above my navel and on the left side of my back. I am able to drink, I am sipping water now...but did not eat breakfast cause I just did not want to feel worse than. So anyway....I am thinking I might be constipated (I know TMI) and I have not ever really been constipated before so I am not sure what it feels like. (What a problem to have right). So any way....my question to you is.....does this sound like constipation or does it sound like something I should be alarmed by and call my surgeons office? I did start taking iron supplements about a month ago and have not had any problems with going to the potty and I have been going this last week but not as much as I would like. And I am on day 4 of the 5 day pouch test.
Thanks and any input would be helpful.
Hey Stephanie. When I was admitted to the hospital last fall with stomach pains that is the area they were in. Just above the velly button and to the left. It was a cramping feeling... that would sort of pulse. At times it felt like there were giant hands inside me wringing out my guts. They admitted me for observation for a potential bowel obstruction... but it turned out to be severe constipation. It was very painful. From my experience the potty issue hit me out of the blue, when it had seemed fine. I've been taking benefiber every day and trying to increase the fiber in my food. It has made a world of difference. I'd talk to your dr but you might want to try MOM or maybe miralax to get things moving again. Once you get it going... keep diligent with your bowel routine. Especially with the iron, it can really play a number on you long term. Hope you feel better soon!!!
Thanks Janie!! I am now having cold chills so I don't know if I am coming down with something or if my office is just colder than normal...which it is usally freezing in here. I really appreciate your prayers and I will keep you posted. I am going to call my surgeron's office and see what they say now. I don't feel too bad but I have never felt anything but good since surgery so this is a bit weird for me.
Hey Janie...no I am not much better. I did manage to eat some protein pudding around 4 pm and then my stomach began to hurt again. I called the doctor's office and she said it sounds like it could be gas or a my gallbladder except the pain was on the left instead of the right side. I was told to take a stool softner and if I did not feel any better I have an appointment at 3 tomorrow....Of course I took a laxative and hope that will help make me feel better before the morning. Thanks so much for checking up on me and i will update you tomorrow.
