How much are you exercising?
I was just wondering how much everyone is exercising currently. I was just told by my Dr that it is important to take at least one day off a week- anyone else heard this?
I do weights twice a week, a Firm Abs tape twice a week and I walked 5 miles a day last week- but that was high for me- I was trying to compensate for the excess calories I was getting in.
Just curious what everyone else is doing... and my other question- do you think when you exercise more it ups your appetite?
Thanks-
Holly
Sad to say no exercising here. none zero zilch nothing nada. I know I should but I don't
Bad me. wow that feels good to admit it. thanks for letting me get it off my chest. Perhaps we should start an exercise program here. Something like having us post some exercises for the day and everyone do it because I do not exercise we could start slow and progress to some great exercising. what do you think is anyone game.

Alice,
Good idea. The best way to get exercising is to commit with someone else. You should post a separate thread and see how many beginners would like some help getting started. Walking to the point of working up a sweat is a great start.
Admiting you need to exercise and aren't is a good first step.

Katy
Hey Holly girl! You are an our January exercise queen!!!!!!! That's awesome! Does that Firms AB tape seem to work? Any exercise tapes for sagging boobs?? hehehehehe! It would save me a lot of $$.
Ok, I have no clue how many miles I jog, but I run for 30 minutes a day (not super fast, but for sure faster than even fast walking) And then every other day I'll do some strength training with light weights. I was going to add a little more weight, but then I checked out the muscles on my arms and I don't want them any bigger, if it wasn't for the xtra skin, I'd have a nice muscle. lol!
I exercise daily too and feel horrible if I skip a day, total opposite from last year!! I am going to convince myself that I'm not going to get fat overnight if I skip a day of exercise. That's the OCD in me, lol!
Firm abs tape is okay. I mainly do it when I don't want to exercise really hard but know I need to do something. Atleast it's done nothing for me- but with this triplet pouch I'd need a miracle- so maybe that's expecting a little much from a $12 DVD.
The only thing that's helped these pathetic sagging boobs is Victoria's Secret!!!
30 minutes a day is great- I think I'd have a heart attack- did you start slowly? You're probly doing atleast 3 miles!!! Do you take a day off per week?
Thanks!!!
Holly
Hey Holly - I can't tell you honestly when was the last time that I didn't exercise. I get in at least 30 minutes a day. I think it drives my dh nuts though, I can't do anything before I exercise.I have to make it a priority though and just do it. He wants me to take one day off a week. I'm just scared to death that once I go down that slippery slope I'll just stop all together. Then I'll eat the wrong foods and too much of this or that and then back to where I started from. I'm a bit of a control freak I guess. Just trying to keep tabs on my weight so that I never end up where I started at.
How 'bout you, you said you get in 6 days a week right? That's great!
I always end up taking 1-2 days off--usually Tuesday because it is so busy. I do an all over weight/strength training 2-3 times a week. It usually takes me an hour to 1 1/2 to finish and then I do at least a half hour of cardio--usually very fast walking with a bit of jogging. I work to keep my heart rate up the entire time. I wear a heart rate monitor that has a chest belt to it.
On other days, I try to bike several miles for at least a half hour of elevated heart rate or walk really fast.
When I met with my surgeon for my yearly checkup, he was very encouraging. He maintains that exercise is absolutely necessary to maintain long term weight loss. I am developing muscles and I love them--particularly my biceps and triceps. My quads aren't too bad either. I wish my pannus and saddle bags looked tons better though. I am working on it.

Katy
Honestly? I don't exercise at all. Haven't since before I hit goal. If I were to exercise, I would have to eat buckets more just to keep my weight steady. I do need to really push myself on lifting weights more often...more muscle mass can't hurt! I am definitely more active and find myself walking more and for longer distances....but now it just seems like the thing to do...not really like exercise.
As for appetite increasing with exercise...absolutely!! More is being burned off and therefore your body is telling you it needs more to burn....that equals more food. Good deal if you ask me .

Since surgery I have walked pretty consistently at least 3 times per week, outside when the weather was nice and on the treadmill when it was too cold.
The last 3 weeks I have kept to my goal of walking every day for at least 30 minutes. Some mornings I get on the treadmill for a quick 15 minutes then do my 30 at night.
Like Katy said walking to the point of sweating it a good start. Lately I have been walking at a 14 minute mile pace with small spurts of jogging mixed in. By the time I'm done I've gone over 2 miles each time and I'm sweating pretty good! I wear wrist weights while walking and try to move my arms a lot.
I've done weight lifting off and on and am fairly toned in my arms and very toned in my legs. I just need to lose this last 15 pounds so I can get a TT. I'm convinced that's the only way my tummy will be toned
I do think exercise increases my appetite. At least immediately afterwards so I try to drink a lot of water during and after. Then I shower and brush my teeth in an effort to avoid snacking, but I will admit I often have a mini bag of popcorn when I'm done in the evening.
Hey Holly: I try to work out at least 4 days a week and do at least 30 minutes a day. I usually get in 6 days a week @45 mins to an hour. I will do cardio mostly and then alternate days I will do free weights. Right now I am also taking an aerobics class on Tues and Thurs so some days I get two work out on those days. I will go to the gym on my lunch break and then do the class after work. I think that may be part of my problem...my appetite increases because of the extra work outs and I am trying to supress it and it causes me to binge. Thanks for this post!! I will start listening more to my body hunger cues and not be so stressed if I don't stay around 1200 calories a day.
