Menstrual cycle-Questions?
Good morning ladies,
I went yesterday for my GYN appt. I will be 42 in April and have been have problems with my cycle not be regular for 2-3 years now. Two years ago when I went in and told her about the problems she said she wanted me to have a cycle every 3 months at least. At them time she did blood work and the two tests she did showed I was in the "low" range but not yet in menopause. She ran the blood work again yesterday and I am awaiting the results.
My questions are these:
1. Is there anyone else who is no longer regular. I have not had but 2-3 periods since my surgery. Granted I was on my period the day of surgery but I have only had 2 maybe 3 since then and nothing since early last summer
2. She wants me to take the premarin every 3 months if I don't have a period within that time because she says that it is unhealthy to let the lining of the uterus build up. What I don't get is if my estrogen levels are low but not necessarily in the "menopause" stage would I really have that much of uterine lining built up in the first place??
3. Is premarin safe to use?
Thanks ladies for your responses,
Sandy
Hello I would research Premarin further. My sister was given it and was told that is is taken from horses and that they are tortured to retrieve it. Please look into this further. I too have problem with my cycle. I had a blood test 3 weeks before RNY and I was told that I am no where near menopause. I am 43 What I was told is that I have polyps in my uterus that burst with hormone changes hence irregular bleeding. My Gyn does not want to remove my uterus because I am not close to menopause. I had my period from the day after surgery and it lasted for 5 months. It was not heavy but it was there and now I have not had it for 6 months. I am on the depo and that may be the cause of it. Well that is my story hope it helps.

The only question I have a semi answer to is #2. So here goes...The process of mensturation happens when your uterial lining breaks away and falls off. When you are going through menopause that process slows or stops and the uterial lining will become thick and it's my understanding can develope endometriosis if not forced through the process. You are probably more safe to take the premarin than not, to avoid other complications. Your estrogen levels are important for other reasons but have no direct effect on the shedding of the uterial lining that I'm aware of. Again I'm no Dr, but this is what I've learned in the last week.
Well, I have nothing useful to add as my periods have become disgustingly regular. They are regular almost to a fault...it makes me miss the days of 6-8 weeks between cycles. I wonder, what was her reason for wanting you to have periods at least every 3 months? It seems that if your body is nearing a time where it doesn't want to have a period anymore, perhaps it is best to let it decide what it wants to do? I would tend to think like you did at the end of question #2....how much lining could be building up if your estrogen levels are falling? Good luck finding a solution that works for you, Sandy. These darn "female" issues are for the birds!

Sorry Sandy, I don't have any answers for you either but would be interested in hearing everyone elses. I too am disgustingly regular and have Menstrual Migraines so the doc has me on Seasonel so I only have them every 3 months. I am with you on # 2 though. I would think the same thing. I am 43 and am expecting to go through Menopause any time now.
