Top five foods of the now
I don't go to support groups and I haven't talked to my nut since the day I left the hospital, so I've just been winging it, aside from going by the plan I was given, which really didn't give too much direction past 9 months.
So, I'm kind of curious as to what you all are eating. Oh, and tell me about how many calories you are up to per day now.
1. Taco salad from Wendy's! I eat 1/3 to 1/2 of it.
2. String cheese w/ oven roasted turkey slices (3 slices usually)
3. South beach pizzas. I can eat about 3/4 of one.
4. Protein bars. Mostly pure protein blueberry bars. I usually eat one every morning because I'm not a big breakfast person, but I know I need to get my vitamins and everything started. Plus, I'm usually on the go.
5. Hormel prepackaged meals.
One huge downside to my eating right now is that I'm in college and I don't have a kitchen. Plus, our cafeteria is pretty lacking. They mostly have soul food. I tried to get a turkey wrap one day at the sandwich line and was told they didn't make them even though they had wraps and turkey slices. I could've just gotten the turkey slices, but why when I have those here in my room? Plus, they have no wheat bread or wrap options.
The scale is moving SO slow and I know it's probably because I'm not eating as well as I should and I'm not working out enough. But, I'm taking a fitness walking class and a self defense class starting in January so that I KNOW I will get more exercise in.
Oh, and I think I'm getting about 900-1100 calories per day now.
Hi Tara!
I eat about 1200 or more calories a day and have for several months now. Maybe you are not eating enough? I know a biggie for me, also, is that if I don't get my 64+ ounces of water in, the weight loss comes off reallllllly slowly. I have lost over 120 pounds and it is still coming off steadily. I started about 3-5 pounds per week, then it slowed to 2-3 pounds, and now I lose at about 1-2 pounds. My nut says I am right on target, and should meet my 1 year goal (fingers corssed... 13 pounds to go)!
I would imagine not having a kitchen would be a big problem! Of course, my favorite things to eat right now are not food that need cooked...
1) turkey, american cheese, and Franks Hot Sauce rolled up together (no wrap/bread)
2) tomatoes with a little salt and some homemade ranch dressing
3) Pria Chocolate Mint power bars
4) mini bags of microwaved popcorn
5) oranges
6) tuna salad with saltines (I add mayo, celery, sweet pickles, and diced apple)
It is funny. I know that I would never have craved those things before. They are all pretty healthy snacks, yet I would choose any of them over a brownie or a candy bar now. It is not a matter of will power at all. It is like my brain has just been reprogrammed about what is yummy and what is not.
I don't know if I helped or not, but I will certainly be sending positive thoughts your way! BTW- I don't buy South Beach stuff, just haven't liked it much, but I love Lean Cuisine's BBQ Chicken Pizza. I can eat the WHOLE thing!!
Great Post Tara!!! According to fitday, my for the last month my average caloric intake was about 927 calories but I know last week I had one day when my intake was over 1200 calories and I was like whoa! Some days I dont want a thing to eat and other days I want to eat everything that is full of fat!
Top five things I ate now:
1)Chicken Salad
2)Homemade Turkey Chili (just made it the other day for the first time and the family loves it)
3)Gum, Gum, Gum does that count? I eat so much gum
4) Chicken, chicken Chicken....prepared any kind of way
5) Protein Smoothie Strawberry Creme carb and sugar control with protein powder added
I still eat mostly protien and try to stay away from white carbs like white bread, regular pasta and white potatoes and white rice and I get my carbs mostly from veggies. I can tolerate all the meats thats I have tried no matter how it is prepared with no problems so I can get in a lot of protein that way. But I have to watch myself because I at times crave fried foods..yummy! Usually I bake things are grill them but every now and then something fried is what I get.
I can eat about 6 to 8 oz of food at a time now, it just depends on what it is which brings me to the age old question of am I eating too much? My weight loss has gotten a lot slower too but it is still moving for the most part so I will not stress out. I still want to lose about 40 more pounds so I try to work out at least 4 days a week, but I usually get in 6 days. I do at least 30 mins of cardio and then I have a weight routine I do and If I have time, I will do 10 more minutes of cardio each day.
Hi Tara -
I'm trying to think what are some foods that you could easily eat at school.....I'm always on the go and here are some of the things that I eat.
Fage yogurt mixed w/ no sugar added jelly or no sugar added fruit cup ( 17 g. protein)
small 4 oz cottage cheese w/ no sugar added fruit cup
protein bars
muscle milk lite protein drink
small amount of pretzels or wheat thins w/ 1 cheese stick
apple w/ peanut butter
lean cuisines - ones w/out rice /bread/pasta/potatoes
burgers( beef/ turkey or veggie) w/out the bun and have it w/ lettuce and tomato
wendy's chili
salads of all kinds
somtimes I even order side of meatballs and that's my dinner.
pizza - just eat the cheese and toppings not the crust. i usually can't handle the crust and if I do eat it, it is usually only 1/2 a piece.
morning star products - the breakfast scrambles are a good change for breakfast food.
I don't know if you are living at school and if you have a refrigerator or a microwave - so don't know if the above things would help.
I can eat basically every thing I try - even steak and dense protein. i don't eat dessert or cookies or candy or rice/ pasta/ bread. Basically protein, veggies and fruit. i actually don't keep track of calorie count - I basically only keep track of protein - at least 50 gms a day.
I haven't really worked out consistently since surgery and i'm still losing - i know I need to start excercising but......ya know how that goes.
Maybe you are not eating enough? or often enough - I know that I need to eat every 3 -4 hours ( little amounts of food - not a sit down dinner).
Don't know if this helps - but your doing great and keep up the good work !

a few of my favorite foods are: chicken stirfry (chicken, veggies and terriayki sauce) the family has rice with it, I just skip that
chicken fajitas w/ lettuce, tomatoe, jalepeno peppers, FF sour cream and salsa. I skip the tortilla.
tacos - I can eat a whole one from Taco Bell
salads - love McD's Asian Salad
Chipotle wrap from Mcd's (eat about half of the tortilla)
pistachios
ham rolled up and mustard
grapes
I TRY and eat about 1200 cal a day... Don't always make that though... I also try and eat something every 3 hours at least, to keep the metabolism rolling!
My favorite foods are at the moment....
Chicken salad
Beef Jerky
Frozen grapes
Fiber one bars
Compeats mini meals
Always love the new ideas.. thanks for posting!!

My favorite foods right now are
1.Cracker Barrel cheese sticks. I love them and I always have them with me as a snack
2.Ground Chicken Patties with cheese. I get the the ground chicken from Kroger and cook the patties on George Foreman. If you are in college, I know somebody has to have a toaster over. If not go to the thrift store and get one, get a george foreman too. I got mine for $4 dollars
3. Frozen strawberries, yogurt and orange juice smoothie
4. tuna salad
5. rolled turkey and cheese
I eat between 700-900 calories a day. I drink at least 100 oz of water a day. I am and always have been a water drinker.
