Post surgery (hyster) update

Hi all. I'm finally back online after my hysterectomy last Wed. I will say that the hyster has been tougher overall than the gb was. More pain. More trouble with potty issues. Just more. I seem to be having trouble with my pain med absorption. I'm on vicodin (or the generic form) 1-2 pills every 6 hours. They take about 1/2 hr to kick in and maybe last an hour beyond that, so pain management has be rough. There's no way I can possibly last the 6 hours as perscribed. Today, I finally switched back to my liquid vicodin (Nortab?) left over from my gb. It absorbs quicker and lasts a little more than 2 hours. If anyone has any input or tips re: pain management I'd appreciate it! I'm planning on calling my gb surgeon in the a.m. to see if they can shed any light. All that said, I am feeling much better today and looking forward to a complete recovery. I was up a full 8 lbs when I got home from the hospital and look about 5 months pregnant with my swelly belly, but the lbs have been dropping off again as I lose the surgery fluid build up. I will say that being in shape, exercising regularly, weighing less, has made this recovery much better in light of overall health than before gb and losing 80plus lbs. Sorry if this doesn't make sense...I'm still kind of drugged up. Margaret

I was just thinking about you yesterday wondering if you'd had it yet. Im sorry your so miserable. I have to have one in Jan and theyre going to remove my belly skin at the same time. Needless to say I am SCARED!! I was really concerned about gaining weight or not being able to lose the rest of mine after the hyster. but my gyn said it wont affect my weight and he'll get me on some kind of hormones. Are u taking any hormones? I hope u feel better soon...and plz keep me posted on how u do and what I have to "look forward to" LOL Mary

Sorry it's been tough- but am glad the surgery went well. I take Vicodin for back pain and this could be totally garbage- but I atleast cut them in half- if not fourths to increase the surface area to help with absorbtion. You could try it and see if it helps... thinking of you- Holly

Margaret, wow I can't believe that this surgery was worse than the GB. I hope you feel better soon. And don't worry about the weight gain, it's just fluids and you'll lose it soon I bet!! Take care!
