QUESTION ABOUT FAT GRAMS
I was wondering how many fat grams do any of you consume in a day? I awlays ead labels and today I discovered for example something said like 4 grams but then I looked over to the side of the package and it said total fat grams in a serving was 25.... Okay I am concerned if I am consuming to many fat grams.
And while I have your attention how many carbs is to many in a day?
Hi, Kellie...
Well, I just popped in to say that I am of no help what-so-ever with this question because I don't count either fat or carbs! LOL
My main goal is to keep the protein high, calories where they need to be at this stage, and to make overall healthy choices. But, that said, I do keep a lid on the carbs because they used to be a huge trigger food for me...you know, have a little~ want more~ have more~ want even more! I really tend to think that because I am careful about my choices- the fat and carb counts will take care of themselves. Perhaps someone else keeps track and can give you some sort of guidelines.

My nuts guidelines are to eat nothing with more than 3g of fat or 3g of sugar. I try to stick to that rule for the most part. BUT, I have set a personal goal of staying below 30g of fat for the day and 70g of carbs. One thing I've found is that if I eat a little more fat in a day I don't tend to have problems with constipation. I don't seem to absorb the fat the same way and it goes right through me if I eat too much.
25g of fat per serving would likely make me sick.....

Hi Kellie,
I think I can help you with this. Here are the guidleines my NUT gave me and I'll try to explain it so it makes sense to you:
Our calories should break down like this: 50% carbs (good carbs from fruits, veggies, and whole grains); less than 30% fat with less than 10% saturated; and 20-25% protein. For example, if you consume 1000 calories in a day your breakdown should be something like this:
500 calories from carbs = 50% of total 1000 calories, 125g of carbs total
300 calories or less from fat = 30% or less of total calories, 33g or less with no more than 11g from saturated fat
200 calories from protein = 20-25% of total calories, 50g or more of protein
Most of us eat more than 60g of protein, my protein total is usually around 40% of my total calories, so I cut back on fat intake...mine is usually around 15-20% (150-200 calories or 16-22g of fat total.
To figure this using your calories intake use this:
1g of protein = 4 calories
1g of carbs = 4 calories
1g of fat = 9 calories
Hope this makes sense and helps!
Take care,
Denise
