Update- Obstruction
If you can call it an update...my update is...I have nothing to update. I went in for my endoscopy yesterday. Basically my pouch was too small to get the scope down into to see the small bowel and see/correct the obstruction. UGGGHHH... I really had my heart set on this whole mess being over. I posted a blog over the weekend about my issues and really put a lot of faith in this procedure being the end of the cramping and pain, but NOPE...I guess it's just beginning. I am on medication, but I have a vacation planned for August 11st (going to Huntington Beach, California to see my nephew for his 2nd birthday!) and had hoped that I'd be feeling better and be "fixed" by then.
I need to call my surgeon's office today to see where we go from here, but I've been a lil busy at work.
Gosh Lori...what a pain(literally) to not have this resolved yet. What is the medication for- pain or to help the obstruction? Hopefully when you get to talk to the surgeon they will have an actual course of action for you...it seems a little dangerous to be walking around with your parts clogged up. Keep us posted...we want to make sure that you're being taken care of, and that you get to make your trip to lovely CA pain-free!!

Well to be honest, I'm not really sure if my pouch is too small or if it's just too small for the test. When I met with the gastroenterologist, he said he was going to put me on two medications, one is a laxative and the other is to calm the stomach and is typically used for people with ulcers or reflux. I immediately asked him if they were safe for WLS patients and he smiled and said "I promise" ... and went on to tell me that he has more WLS patients than probably any other Gasto. in Houston, and named two prominent Dr's in Houston *****fer to him. I trust my surgeon so I am going to keep taking the medicine and see if it helps my symptoms. I'm not sure I've given it enough time to work since I was just put on it on Friday and haven't taken it in two days because my sample ran out and the pharmacy doesn't normally carry the powder form I was put on (how's that for DRAMA???).
So anyway, all that said it's only partially obstructed (bottom half...I think) so things are moving through, but just at a slower more painful rate.
Hi Lori,
Sorry you didn't really get all the answers you wanted. Just trust in your Drs. and hopefully they will get this all figured out for you. What a lucky little nephew to have you travel to see him on his second birthday. I hope you have a good time and are feeling better by the time you leave. I also want to thank you for your reply to my post about being afraid to eat. I was beginning to think that I was the only one. I am glad you let me know I wasn't. Take care and feel better.
Hugs.. Roxanne
