How easy it is to go over 1000 or even 1200 calories in a day
So, I am keying in my food for today on Fitday.com and I noticed that I am already over 1000 calories and I have not had dinner yet. Normally I dont even hit 1000 calories but today has been horrible! They ordered P F Chang today at work and I had spareribs....they maybe had 4 oz of meat on them but with the sauces and stuff...the calories were way high! This is totally freaking me out cause I did not think I was maybe a bad food choice until I keyed it in..and I was oh my goodness! So now I am totally freaking out about this...am I supposed to skip dinner now? And my next protein shake? I now see that it is way too easy to go over the calorie limit of 1200 a day. I dont have any snacks during the day, but I do have a least one scoop of protein powder mixed with water a day. And I will chew sugar free gum about 3 pieces day.
My meal for today was
Breakfast 1 medium egg with cheese and two pieces of fried zucchini (I know that was a bad choice)
Lunch 1 oz green beans and about 4 oz of spare ribs
1 Protein powder w/ 8 oz of water
And my caloric intake on yesterday was extra high too.....I ate sun flower seeds for lunch, 2 oz and they are so high in calories that it almost negates the good stuff they have in them.
Am I the only one that is freaking out because I see how easy it is to eat small portions but indulge in high fat/calorie foods?? Man, oh well....I just needed to vent on that.
Hey Steph - try not to be so hard on yourself. Yes, you have to eat dinner. Eat protein only and a small salad if you want. Who would have known that only 4 oz of ribs would be that many calories? You are NOT going to gain weight if you eat 1200 calories for 2 days!!! You could still lose ya know? It's hard sometimes. The other day I was at my sister's for a bday party and she just had a ton of food. I am sure I ate about 1200 calories that day. I make ok food choices, but I was grazing. I just picked myself up and did better the next day. You will too! ***HUGS***
Don't be so hard on yourself! Remember that a "normal" woman your height probably eats 1800 or more calories a day. It is easy to go over the 1000 calories. Remember pre-surgery how 1000 calories could easily be just ONE meal. My RD said that I should be eating 1000-1200 calories a day at this point, but I have had a few days like what you are talking about where I have hit 1400. You are doing great. That is wonderful that you are still so diligent about tracking your food. I rarely even journal anymore!
Hey Belle!! Thanks for letting me know that I am not the only one! The day before yesterday I was over 1300...I knew sunflower seeds were hi in calories and fat but they are supposed to be so packed full of other good vitamins and nutrients that I eat them anyway...but when they put me so far over the limit..I don't know if they are worth it. Most things get easier the longer you do it, but I am thinking this journey is going to get harder the more time passes by...thanks for the encouragement! This board is the greatest!
Thanks Janie!! Of course I did not eat dinner last night or have my protein drink....I know I am dork...so my intake was at 1032. But the day before when I ate out with my friends..I ended up with about 1300 calories! I will definitely do better today and thank you so much for putting things back into prespective for me. You guys are so wonderful for me...if I did not have you to vent to on days like yesterday, I would go crazy!!
I was not hungry. And this morning becuase I have not been to the store, I only had my protien powder with water for breakfast...so I was hungry by lunch time! I was like man!
I had actually planned to eat but I started watching tv and talking on the phone and fell asleep! Can you imagine that??? And if I did not have you guys I would not think I was normal either! We do a good job helping each other keep things in prespective!
Stephanie, I think the key is that you are eating regular small meals and as you say noo snacking! Those are very good habits to develop.
I know snacking for me is a battle. Even if the choices are good proteins like cheese and peanut butter. It is so easy for me to take in too many calories with the snacking.
You are doing great!
Steph-
Call me crazy but i think having an unusual calorie day every now and then keeps our metabolism going- I have even lost after some of them. The key is how often you have them.
I am so proud of you for being so stringent this far out- you are doing awesome and your diligence is paying off. Can you ever imagine being like this presurgery over 4 oz of spare ribs? You are establishing awesome habits!!!
