Feel like I'm in a rut

Well last Sunday I was at 180 then went back up to 182 on Monday, now back down to 181. I am going to step up my protein a bit and see if that helps. I will add another protein shake in the afternoon. Wooooooot I was able to do 25 min on the eliptical.....yipppppeeeeee! I have also added more reps instead of weight to my weights workout. I'll let you all know how it goes. Anna

Anna, Thanks for your encouraging words! You are doing so well. Just press on. One thing I've learned about WLS, the ruts and stalls will happen - just like they did when we were dieting. The thing is, with WLS, the scale WILL get moving again. Discouragement no longer has the ability to de-rail us from our goals! Woohoo! Great job on the eliptical! It has become my exercise machine of choice. Remember that lifting weights can slow down weight loss BUT (and it's a bit but!) it will help keep off the weight in the long run - so it's totally worth doing. Margaret

Anna - that happened to me too. I was 159 a few weeks back and then overnight gained 2-3 lbs. I was freaking out. It took a few days to lose it, but it came off and so will yours. I can't explain it, I didn't start my period until 2 weeks later though, I thought for sure that was the culprit. Not sure though, 2 weeks later???? Keep up what you're doing and it will come off. Question about the eliptical machine, do you walk or jog on that? I mean, my hubby suggest I get one of those, but I really want a treadmill so I can run (that's what I've been doing for exercize lately) Not sure how the eliptical works? THx!

I'm not Anna, but I'll answer for me. I "run" on the eliptical, alternating a slower sequence with more resistance with a faster sequence of "running". When compared to a run/walk sequence on a treadmill, the eliptical elevates my heart rate faster and keeps it elevated on a more even keel (not up and down a lot) for the entire workout. I actually go from the eliptical to the treadmill for my cool down. Calorie-wise, I burn about the same (according to the machine's calculations) whether I do 4000 strides on the eliptical or walk/run 2 miles on the treadmill, each a 30 minute work out. HTH, margaret

So, it the eliptical harder than the treadmill? Also, how many calories do you burn in a 30 minute workout? Thanks for the response. That helps a lot.

For me the eliptical is a more intense workout than the treadmill...kind of like the next step up. I burn something over 300 calories in a 30 min. workout....but I'm still over 200 lbs (barely, thank God!). One thought is that if you like to alternate workouts at all, if you bought an eliptical, you could still alternate with running/walking your neighborhood once the weather cools a bit. HTH, Margaret
